Aura HD and Calibre: DatabaseError: database disk image is malformed

I'm getting this error when I connect my device and launch calibre:

database disk image is malformed Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/calibre/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 86, in run self.result = self.func(*self.args, **self.kwargs) File "/usr/lib/calibre/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 490, in _books mainlist = self.device.books(oncard=None, end_session=False) File "/usr/lib/calibre/calibre/devices/kobo/driver.py", line 1764, in books for i, row in enumerate(cursor): DatabaseError: database disk image is malformed I saw somewhere that I should try a reset. The procedure seems to be to power off the device, stick a paperclip in the hole and then the device should reset. That doesn't happen when I put the paperclip in the hole. I am apprehensive of doing a full factory reset, I've done a lot of hacking on this device, getting ssh access, setting up koreader and the launcher, changing various settings etc. If I factory reset, I'm going to loose all of that, aren't I? |

Fixing the database does not need a full reset; from the Settings | Accounts menu select SIGN OUT in the Kobo account section.

This will drop the database, remove the WiFi, Pocket and Adobe account authorizations but will not reset the f/w or delete side-loaded content. |

The pin-hole reset is a way to restart te device when it has hung. It shouldn't change anything on the device.

Doing a logout on the device is the usual way to fix this. It will restart, create a new database and take you through the setup. It will check for new firmware, but if you are already on 3.2.0, it shouldn't cause any problems. I don't know what affect this will have on the hacks you have installed. |

Just pressing the reset switch is similar in effect to powering the device off and back on. It can be useful when your ereader is frozen and will not respond even to holding the power switch for 15-20 seconds to power off. Regards, David |

Had the same problem. With Nirsoft USBdeview (freeware) I deleted the Kobo USB connection history on my computer. Kobo not connected! After that calibre communicates again with the reader.
