My three aren't ratty (I can can read a paperback without creasing the spine; Dngrswife thinks I'm magic), but they are certainly old-- I'm guessing around 25 years old for those particular ones...

after i gave my new copies to my mother years ago, then i replaced them with ratty used copies that weren't just used - they were VERY used ;-)

I'm currently reading this and it's very fun; it's like the X-Men and Harry Potter meets the Dirty Dozen. The book is also a bit more lighthearted than the description makes it sound.

I like how the book says that Wakulla Springs is deep in the jungles of the Florida Panhandle. I do not believe I ever saw this jungle while I lived there.

I don't know - I saw a news photo last week with them wrestling a 20'+ python out of the glades. And there are trees, of a sort, here and there (and the panhandle does have mangrove groves, right?)

So, trees, man-eating lizards and snakes. Sounds like a jungle to me.
