People running pirated CC asking for help

In the last two weeks we have received three help requests from people running pirated versions of CC. How do we know? Because the supplied crash traces do not match any released version of CC, much less the one they claim to be running.

It is one thing to steal software. It is another thing to steal software then steal the our time to make it work. However, I suppose that given that almost 50% of CC users are running pirated versions the fact that it happens shouldn't be a surprise. Grumble grumble.

Why the hell would someone pirate such an inexpensive piece of software?

I think some people do this just because they can. Jerks!

But how does one know that one is using the genuine CC? I had no idea there was a pirate version. So far as I remember I got mine through Google apps; is that enough for me to be sure that I'm using the genuine version?

@Alex these pirates dont get apps thru the playstore they are non playstore installs.

As Dopedangel said, if you got it through the play store then it is genuine. It is also genuine if you are offered updates by the play store. The pirated versions are APK files that you must download and then manually install and manually update. The play store is not involved.

And to think I've purchased it via Amazon and Google Play stores... and together they cost me less than fast food for me and the SO (bought it for my phone before remembering I'd already gotten it for my Fire). Worth every penny and more... so saith my reviews at both sites too!

The pirates will ignore the reminder (they knew they could buy CC but decided not to), or even remove it. No matter how gentle the reminder is, it will annoy people who purchased CC. We don't want to penalize honest folks to fight an unwinnable war, like Amazon is doing with their DRM.

Totally agree.

There is an app I stooped using because of that. It insisted on calling home every now and then for licence check. Annoying when you have a network at hand, big problem when in the metro without data.

One thing you might want to do is a free demo / ad supported version.
Some people not wanting to pay might be ok with ads, and personally, i like being able to test out a bit before buying.

I do so echo all the comments - how stupid can it be to, first, steal something so reasonably priced anyway that is the result of someone's hard work, and secondly, to proudly tell the real owners they'd nicked it and could they have some help getting the pirated dodgy version to work like the the genuine version.........

Dumb or what .....

I don't even remember how much CC cost but it was worth every penny. People are dumb.
