New Kobo Touch - Dark Screen

Just bought my partner a Kobo Touch. The screen is noticeably darker than the other e-readers in my household (Kobo Mini, Nook Glowlight, Kindle 4). I have no accurate way of measuring the difference but I'd estimate that the Touch is a third darker that the others. I'm talking about the page darkness (whiteness), by the way, not the text.

Has anyone experienced this? Defective unit, maybe?

Thanks for any ideas.

I don't suppose your Touch has a white bezel? That will make the screen appear a lot darker.

It does have a white bezel. I forgot to mention that I already tried that, covering the bezel with black card. The darkness was still noticeable. The missus is saying that it quite often goes to the sleeping screen, so I'm going to take it back I think.

The Kobo Touch still uses Pearl e-ink panels from an older generation, which have a lower contrast then newer generation Pearl panels.
Therefore the 'white' is more darker grey compared to these newer panels.

From what I can gather, there have been several versions of the Touch: N905, N905B and N905C.

I have a N905B and it has a good Pearl screen and is a bit superior to the Vizplex screened Kobo Mini I also own, in terms of background colour. But look at this photo http://goodereader.com/blog/uploads/...1-1024x459.png That doesn't just look like the white frame effect, the Touch looks a lot darker.

Did maybe early Touches use a different screen?

Your photo is spot on. That's exactly what we are seeing. Annoying, to say the least.

Edit: Ours is an N905J according to 'device info'.
