				Goodreads on Kindle

Has anyone connected to Goodreads on their Kindle? What does it look like? Does something special happen between the Kindle and Goodreads? Does it automatically update where you are in a book or anything like that?

I'm editing because my real questions are have you done it, and do you like it, and why or why not? Last edited by NickyWithNook; 01-23-2014 at 11:22 PM. |

Yes, I've done it. No, I don't like it.

It's a very inadequate substitute for the Goodreads app on a tablet, or the Goodreads website. It's so rudimentary in function that for me, it's not worth using (though to be fair, this is the first implementation and eventually, it will probably improve). You can't use custom shelves, it doesn't post progress to Facebook even though it's apparently linked, no, it doesn't update automatically, as near as I can figure out you can only add books you've purchased from Amazon to the shelves you can access...and so on. It's just not really much more than a marketing gimmick right now in my eyes. |

I agree. It is too basic and takes ages to load since I have so many books on Goodreads. I just continue to use it on my tablet or computer. It's the first version of integration with the Kindle so I don't fault them too much. It'll be interesting to see how they improve it.

Amazon presumably wouldn't have bought Goodreads unless they had some ideas about generating revenue from it. Connecting it to the Kindle would seem to be a good way to do that.

I like it. It does what I need it to. Its not like Id want to type out a review using a kindle. I just use it for marking books as read and reading now.

I too had hoped that it would auto update my status on the books I'm reading.

As of now I don't use the Goodreads feature at all. It's easier and faster to use on my iPhone. Last edited by just_jeepin; 02-03-2014 at 05:33 PM. Reason: typo |

Another thing occurs to me. I read nonfiction pretty often, and sometimes those books are political, and I don't want to get into political debates so I wouldn't necessarily want them listed on Goodreads where friends/family with differing political views would comment.

If I did buy the new model of Paper White it would be for the faster processor not the integration of goodreads. Problem is that the increase in the processor speed is not enough to pry loose any of my hard earned dollars.

I tried the Goodreads on my PC, HDX and PW and stopped using it. I don't see any of its uses benefitting me.
