I really like the high resolution on the aura HD.I do a lot of reading, & I find that it is less stressful on the eyes.
I also like the light and the Pocket service for reading articles, but I guess all three models have these features. |

I just picked up my Aura HD for the first time after receiving my Aura a month and a half ago. Man does it ever feel heavy (and slippery!) It does have a nice screen though. I'd like to go through my two readers with a book that it picture heavy and see what the difference is. In terms of text I don't really think the resolution difference is noticeable. I voted for the Aura. The small size and portability along with the capacitative screen and a back that doesn't make it feel like it wants to jump out of your hands puts it on top for me.

I think the main functional differences between the models are screen size (6.8in. 265dpi for the AuraHD, 6.0in. 212dpi for the Glo/Aura) and touch system (IR for the Glo and AuraHD, capacitive for the Aura).
The Aura and AuraHD have 4GB internal storage vs the Glo's 2GB, but don't let that sway you as it is quite easy to upgrade the internal storage on the Glo if that is important to you (I have 8GB in my Glo). Early models of the Glo had a brighter light which some people found to be too bright. If that is a concern then beware that some places are still selling those early models. (I have an early model and am very happy with it, but I prefer the cooler white tone of the light to the warmer tone of the newer models). If I had to replace my Glo today I would be tossing up between another Glo and the AuraHD. |

I'm using the Aura HD, my wife has the Aura. For reading, I prefer the Aura HD's larger and sharper screen while she prefers the Aura's smaller size and lighter weight. Personally, I don't find the Aura HD slippery though that does seem to be a common complaint. Neither of us sees much difference between the IR and capacitive touch screen when reading.
If you can find a store carrying the Glo, Aura HD and Aura, try holding them in your hands to see which you are comfortable with. Good luck! Regards, David |

You can turn the light down, and how far you can turn it down might have changed in the firmware at some point (but if it did then I didn't notice any effect since I never use it on the minimum setting), but the issue for some was that it was still too bright for reading in full darkness even on the lowest setting. The colour tone and brightness are hard to describe objectively without a colour/light meter. Apparent brightness depends on a number of factors such as how far away from your face you hold the device, how much white space is on the page you are viewing, etc. Apparent colour tone depends on the colour of the ambient light. In full darkness I find the minimum setting too dim for comfortable reading. I usually have it set at about 10% in the dark. If I read in a room with yellow curtains the screen looks a bit blue, if I read in my blue tent then the screen looks a bit yellow, in daylight it looks pure white. Thanks for all of the opinions and advice. I've ended up buying a used aura HD from one of the members here (Thanks Jen!). Hopefully it'll be here on Thursday.

If I were buying it myself I'd have to get the aura as it has all the latest features. If someone said hey you can have any kobo device for free I'd say the kobo aura HD lol

That's great, dow! I've been tempted by that Aura HD so many times. I couldn't answer your poll, because I only have 1 of the items you listed, which is the Glo, although I am quite happy with it. I know the HD is even better, so you should like it!

[HIJACK ALERT!] Since the OP has made their decision, I thought I'd point out from the poll that for what was originally going to be a "limited edition" device, the Aura HD become a rather mainstream!!

Robko, two separate Kobo employees told me in 2013 that it the Kobo Aura HD was their bestselling E Ink device -- there clearly was a market niche not being served by anyone else for an upscale E Ink device. Kobo wisely stepped up production to meet demand.
(Sadly, the Kobo Mini turned out to be their worst-selling device in the 2013 line-up; it's too bad, because it filled another underexploited niche -- of major players, only Sony had also offered a 5-inch E Ink device -- and I think the Mini is fabulous; I have two of them. The Kobo Mini has been discontinued.) |

Even though the OP made a choice, I voted for the Aura because of its great form factor, its weight and the ability to fine tune the light with two fingers.
If the question wasn't be have one and only one device, I would go with the Mini and the Aura HD (as I do, actually). Quote:
