I wonder if it could be used to read books as well. I mean if it can be used to play games like chess for example I'd think having a bookcase and turning pages would be child's play.

Wow, those things were hideous. I would have no desire to ever own something like that.

Granted they do look clunky. They will probably streamline the design over time.

What prototype doesn't look like unweildly garbage? Design comes after proof of concept.

Those look really interesting. The only issue I see is the lack of tactile feedback; playing chess would be an odd experience, but I'm all for a floating interface. It would be interesting to combine this tech with gloves that provide force feedback.

Agreed on the interesting bit, and about how prototypes (and even early consumer models) tend to look clunkier than the products that eventually permeate the market. I can also see such technology having many applications.

Will it be used for reading? Doubtful. Reading involves immersion in a book, not immersion in some sort of hybrid of virtual reality and physical reality. I would think that the conflicting inputs from those two worlds would be more of a detriment than a benefit. It will be useful for augmented reality: situations where you want to add stuff to the real world for entertainment or practical purposes.

Have they ever solved the issue with headaches? The human eyes tend to not like screens up close, so I'm thinking these will be short term use only. No good if they cause headaches, no matter how cool the technology is. I've seen a lot of wearable computers over the past decade or more, but none have been successful yet.
