				Ejecting SD Card

I cant' seem to find any information on how to handle SD Cards with the Glo. Is there any steps you need to take to eject the SD card (i.e. some setting in the Glo that lets you eject the card before physically removing it)? I take it it's a good idea to switch the device off before inserting/removing the SD card. |

I don't turn either my Glo or Touch off to eject the card. I just eject it, do whatever is needed, make sure that the device has recognised the card has gone (the home page will flash, the library list will no longer show the books) and then insert it again. I have never had a problem with this.

In theory, SD and uSD cards are designed to be hot swappable. After a few bad experiences with smartphones, I developed the habit of powering off the device before removing or inserting the card. While I had a couple of cards decide that they were 32MB unformattable devices before I made a habit of powering off, I haven't had that happen since. Other sources have stated this was an issue unrelated to removing the card with power on. Check for 31/32mb SD card issues for more on this failure mode. So in theory, I can pop the card in and out without power cycling but in practice, bad experiences tell me not powering off is not a good idea. Regards, David |

I have a question...what is the difference between an SD card and a uSD card? This forum is the only place I have ever heard of a uSD card being discussed, and up until this post, I just figured that it was another name for a SD card. The above sentence, however tells me that they are two different things. Shari | |

u is abbreviation for micro. uSD card is Micro SD card. The difference is size of card and typing fewer letters. http://www.ewh.ieee.org/soc/ias/pub-...breviation.pdf Last edited by filmo; 01-16-2014 at 07:53 AM. |

Actually it's μ that's the symbol for Micro, that's the greek letter mu. The Latin letter u is occasionally used as not all keyboards have a mu key, especially outside Europe. It's also often simply abbreviated to m or M. EDIT: On topic, 'safe removal' is often to prevent a device being removed as data is written to it. I'm not that familiar with the SD card standard but if the Kobo never writes to the SD card (stores annotations etc. on the main memory) then it may be designed to be pulled out at any time. The Kobo devices can write to the SD card, but not very often. With current firmware, I think it will only happen during a sync to the Kobo servers.
