Free PDF converter from multi-column PDF to 'text flow'?
ABBYY PDF Transformer does this but it is not free.

(I am also looking for free alternative to ABBYY Screenshot Reader)

Try this thread k2pdfopt: optimizes PDFs for viewing on e-readers

It is one of the stickies in this forum, and probably offers your best bet for this.

Discussing the topic is not against the rules of this forum. However, providing information on how to perform the DRM is against the rules. We do not want to stifle discussion but DRM removal may be against the law in some places in the world and can result in prosecution. We will not be a party to that behavior.

You can also crop multi column pdf beforehand using free apps like briss, pdfscissors, a-pdf-page-cut and then convert that one column pdf the way you like it.
