'File, Import Files' and 'Add File' redundant?

'File, Import Files' and 'Add File' would seem redundant.

The Import Files opens a 'standard' File Open dialog where you can select one or multiple files. The Add File icon only allow a single file and the dialog appears to be formatted in the Calibre style Changing the Add File icon to perform the functions of File, Files Import would remove what seems to me to be redundant and leave the more flexible capability more readily accessable Paul |

Add file can also be used to create new, empty files. http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/edit...ew-blank-files

Why not separate the actions, and have Import Files for adding pre-existing files, and an option for Create New File in the right-click context menu for the file browser? Sigil works like that, and the file is automatically inserted after the file you right-clicked on.

I like the idea of the toolbar Add File(s) icon allowing you to import multiple books directly, instead of going to the menu. Hmm, either way, perhaps the Add New File function in calibre should add the file in after the one that is highlighted, rather than the end? I would assume more often than not, the new file would be to continue from wherever the editor is at the moment, rather than necessarily at the end. And if that is wrong, they can always move it. New files should default to wherever they are most likely meant to be, and I personally think it would be right after the working file. (I don't know, you might think differently.) Also, maybe the default shortcut for Import Files should be "A". It's shortcutless and A is not reserved for anything, so why not? |
