Something is wrong!

I bought a 64 GB Kindle HDX the one with an 8.9 inch screen. So, I put around 1200 books on it, plus games, apps, and some music. I go to open a book and after about 20 - 30 seconds it crashes {closes} and I get taken back to the main screen. I open, it closes....repeatedly and any book I try. I did call product support and they had me deregister, re-register, clear the cache, reboot and so forth. It all seemed to work because the book stayed open for about a minute then and tech support and I both thought the problem was solved. Sure enough after I hang up the phone, the book crashed. Has anybody else had this problem? I am so heartbroken, I have never had a problem with any device from Amazon before!

Sounds like a problem with one particular book. Do a factory reset, then add a FEW books and see if it works OK.

Thanks for replying! I have tried this with many of my books, same result. It couldn't be a problem with space as I have 47 GB left!

Go to settings> applications> Amazon Kindle app> Force Close and Hard boot tablet. Also clear cache and data as well. The books you've loaded will be ok.

This is very unlikely to be a hardware problem; it's much more likely to be something you've installed that's causing the instability. Do a factory reset, as I suggested before, then install things one at a time, and see at what point it becomes unstable.

Sometimes the kindle app does that, clearing the cache, data and force stopping the app; then doing a hard boot always works for me. CS instructed me to do this when I got the first Kindle Fire and it's worked on all the Kindle HD, and Kindle HDX. Don't know why sometimes the app acts up but clearing the cache and data, then force stopping and a hard reboot does the trick every time. I'd use another reader app if I had to do a factory reboot everytime this happened. |

You placed 1200 books on your device! They need time to index. Leave the device on charge overnight without using it. Once they are all indexed, you should be fine. If some of those books are large, like encyclopedias, keep it unused on charge for two days. Also, do NOT call Customer Support. Go to Help / Mayday and a technician can examine your particular unit for problems. They pick up in seconds and can operate your device while you watch them. You will see the technician in a video screen on your device. One of your settings may not be set correctly. Last edited by sirmaru; 12-09-2013 at 01:07 PM. |

You didn't happen to sideload these books, did you? It probably is the issues Sirmaru and Becky mentioned but it also could be problem with the files if you are side loading.

For the eink kindles, which have less powerful CPUs, creating book indexes for each book makes the search results come up much faster and also allows you to search within all the content on the Kindle from the Home screen. You cannot do this on Fire, it just searches Title and Author. When I first registered my new Fire HD2, it started downloading content that I'd sent to it previously and for awhile it was acting weird, I could not see all of my Cloud items, etc. But that soon cleared up and everything is fine now. So there is probably some sort of indexing that goes on with the list of Library items that takes place to speed up item/title/author search for your various types of content. But it is not as big a job as indexing the content. I can imagine if you had thousands of items (whether on or off the device) that it will take more time to settle down than it did for me (though I probably have at least 1000 items). But it doesn't mean there is a problem with corrupt content. Again that is a problem eink Kindles sometimes have because they index the content. I would leave it alone for an hour or two and stop rebooting and clearing cache and all that. Let it finish what it is trying to do. Last edited by tomsem; 12-09-2013 at 02:58 PM.

It means more problems like you get on eInk. It sounds like a corrupted database I would do what Becky recommended and clear the Kindle app data however you need to explain why type of books you are putting on it.

What am I missing? Note I am talking about content within the book, not content (items) on the device. There probably is an index for that, as I alluded to. Last edited by tomsem; 12-09-2013 at 07:39 PM.

Just yesterday I downloaded Gotcha! by Christie Craig because I was reading the sequel so I search for the hero's name from the new book in Gotcha! and it told me I had to wait till it was indexed there was a little progression bar that show it indexing. Let me see if I can get a screenshot.

Okay here we go. I downloaded A Pirate's Possession and when I went to search for the heroine's name this is the screen I got.

I don't really get the point of indexing on the fire tablets. When I do a search in the kindle app for my phone or nook(which don't index), the search results come back faster than on my fire, and I get better results. A lot of times I'll search for a term that I know is in a book, and on the fire nothing comes up, whereas I'll typically get results on the other devices.

My old Kindle Fire didn't index anything. This seems to be Mojito only which is only on the new Kindle Fires. Indexing is super quick though unlike waiting on a regular Kindle.
