When updating Calibre, should it be uninstalled first?

Or can I just install the updated version without uninstalling the previous version?

It has been Years since the first (and only) update that needed an Uninstall

Not normally (default location will overwrite). Care is needed to use the same custom PROGRAM location.

Even if you uninstall, Calibre settings and Library are retained.

Awesome. That's as I suspected. I haven't done an update in well over a year, maybe two, and I could not remember how I did it the last time. Thanks a lot for the reply.

The one thing to double check is that calibre is fully shutdown before the upgrade is performed.

Thank you. I did just that. I'm now successfully running Calibre v1.14 and boy is it a LOT faster.

Most of the time, updating atop the previous version works fine. Sometimes, it doesn't, and Calibre starts to crash or behave weirdly. If it does, just uninstall and re-install in the same location. It would be best to have a backup of your Settings folder and of your library available, just in case. Normally they're not touched, but you never know.
