PW2 App/tools compatibility thread - Page 7

Looks like it's easy to get custom screens for the shutdown/reboot sequences when you press Restart - just replace the following files with your own. (match the size and dimensions)
/usr/share/blanket/shutdown/bg_medium_reboot.png
/usr/share/blanket/splash/bg_medium_defaultbg.png
/var/local/blanket/low_level_screens/images/splash.png

Note: The shutdown & splash directories are read only (ro) so you will have to mount them as "rw" to fiddle with them. PM me for instructions if needed.

I got a message from another member regarding this post asking about the "original" splash screen that makes a quick appearance right after the rebooting screen (which he was able to replace with his own). He had located an instance of this graphic here: /opt/amazon/low_level_screens/758x1024/splash.png and thought that this might be the "Main" splash screen. He wrote me telling me this and thought that if it were swapped out it would be gone but was afraid to fiddle with the files and cause brickdom.
I tried replacing that file with one of my own but the original one still makes its brief appearance (the 2nd one shown below). I guess that graphic is not the one to replace - so some more detective work is needed. Anyone want to help? Just need a list of the file locations that have this original splash.png image.
Here are the 4 images that appear on my PW when I do a "Restart". The 3rd image is the one that I swapped with my own thinking it would be the "New" main splash screen, but there must be another one somewhere that gives the 2nd image but I still have not been able to locate it.

@ixtab: I'm curious, did you receive your new Paperwhite yet? Was it still in the 5.4.0 version configuration and are you planning to possibly create the partition backups over the weekend?

It's still the first reason why I don't update my device (PW1) from 5.3.4

What exactly do you mean by "etc"? The jbpatch thread has a temporary option available for all fw including 5.4.2, for font sizes, margins etc. If margins are the only issue, then there is no issue (actually).

Do we have success yet for fonts on the PW2? I don't.
I (successfully via Update) installed Kindle-python-0.8.N.zip and Kindle-llinkss-0.15.N.zip, but fonts don't show. Even tried the USE_ALT_FONTS/font directory route. No go.

It only works with overriding Fonts. Please check the PW Fonts Hack thread, NiLuJe explained it there.

Yes, I can override the fonts with my custom ones and see the results on various screens when restarting, etc., but my (most important to me) "Aa" screen remains the same... it doesn't reflect my additions the way it did when I used the "USE_ALT_FONTS" fix with my PW1. Is this expected or could I be omitting some step? Thanks for your help.

Yes, it is expected, as written in the said thread in the last posts by NiLuJe. As I told you before , please read it.

Nope, it's still not here, though it should have arrived last friday. The last information I got is that it's probably stuck at some border or customs.

You are so right - yes, thanks to NiLuJe we can now use our own choices for fonts, and thanks again aceflor for pointing me to the post that cleared away my fog!
