Kindle PW 2 Pinhole Bright Light, Stuck Pixels, Please Enter

Is anyone else experiencing poor build issues with the PW 2?, i.e. Pinhole Glows and other kinks? Recently I went through 2 replacements, they all exhibit a speck of stuck glowing pixel, now I know its a minor thing, but I just wanna get a consensus on how frequent these issues are occurring across the board? A "yellowish hue" is not a fault; it's the way the PW's screen is.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotat...&v=8KDpfIPhTa0 I rest my case on the yellowish hue subject but how about pinhole bright spots, I think quite a number of people on this forum are having similar problem with a speck or specks of glowing pixels. Personally I just had 2 replacements back to back manifesting this exact problem though maybe to a lesser degree than some are experiencing. Last edited by Steinhoff; 10-26-2013 at 07:38 AM. | |

Steinhoff, yes, the pinholes/glowing specks are pretty common. So are tiny dark specks between the layers. Some people don't seem to notice them and some people see them fairly easily. I'm sorry your units had them. Good luck with your replacement if you are pursuing one.

I own a PW 2012, PW 2013, HD 2012 and an HDX 2013 and have not found any defects on all four devices other than 2 freezes on my PW 2013 so far.

I returned two faulty ones. I didn't have pin holes or dust speaks I had a light bleed from behind the frame on one, and a splotchy uneven dark yellow screen on the second. I haven't bothered getting a third as my Paperwhite 1 is lovely, and looking lovelier by the day. |

I got mine in the mail on Saturday morning. My second Kindle after the K3 which I have had for three years since it's release and been very happy with. I held off getting the first gen Paperwhite after hearing so many problems with the screen. After looking at several video reviews giving very positive reviews I purchased the second gen. As soon as I took it out of the box and booted it up I noticed a glowing pixel / pinhole The screen is also noticeably brighter at the top and a little shadowy at the bottom with maybe a slight light bleed at the sides. All in all very dissapointing. I contacted Amazon with chat on their contact page and they said to charge it for at least four hours (it had about 50% charge when it arrived.) Then to do a full reset by holding the power button for 20 seconds. They said if this does not fix it they will replace it. I thought the problem was probably physical and the charge and reset would not fix it, and when I did as they asked nothing changed. So I will get back to them tomorrow or Monday and get a replacement. If this problem (mostly concerned about the pinhole, the lighting isn't great but good enough for the moment) can't be fixed within a couple of replacements I will just wait for the next gen. |

Good luck with your replacement. I'll be getting my PW next month, also upgrading from a Kindle 3. I'll be doing the same as you, if there are any issues (pinholes, overly yellow, uneven lighting) I'll try one or two replacements then just give up and wait. Though I'm more likely to wait for 6 months and give it another try as they seem to be able to improve on these issues over time. The other option was to try the Kobo Aura but it has similar issues and they're not so easy to deal with regards exchanges/refunds.

I can confirm your issues (glowing pixels). I had a return because a yellow tracer in the left down part of the screen. The replacement has at least two glowing pixels. On request a service person at amazon.de told me that they have some problems with quality control because they wanted to deliver the gadgets on time. He told me that currently there is no warrant to get a device without any issues and recommended me to wait after Christmas before sending it back for a waranty replacement (He made a internal note to prevent later discussions about the validity of my warranty request).

I am on my third PW2, and even this one has many dust particles between the screens. The first one had color blobs, pinholes, light bleed and dust particles, the second had a horrid dark yellow light and dust particles/pinholes but no color blobs, at least....

What does the screen look like when you're reading a book at a normal light level? ie how do the issues manifest themselves?
