Paperwhite packaging (difference between 1st and second)

What are the differences in outside packaging between the two Paperwhites.

Someone wants to sell me one, I want to make sure it's the 2nd Gen.

Having just retrieved my PW1 box as I'm about to put the thing on ebay, the only difference I can see on the black cardboard box is that on the side, PW1 has "Kindle Paperwhite" over 2 lines, and PW2 has "Kindle Paperwhite" over a single line. That's for UK devices, don't know if its the same for all countries.

Edit: pic now attached

Also, you can check the serial number on the box - it seems that all Wi-Fi PW2 start B0D4 (not sure about SO ones, and 3G model not out yet I believe)

Do you think I should open the box before I agree to buy it from the seller? It is sealed I think it should be okay...

If I'm not mistaken there are 3 blue, boxed, small labels in the bottom left hand corner of the PW2 and the books on the cover are different.

My PW1 has "Catching Fire" and others.

Well if the box hasn't ben opened then should be ok, otherwise if it's been opened just take the PW out and look at the back - PW1 has "kindle" and PW2 has "amazon"

I don't have a PW1, but the back of the PW2 box (outer box) has ©2013 in the area of small text.

Just curious, but why would they be selling a PW2 that can still be returned to Amazon? Better check and make sure it is working and that it isn't blacklisted.

My WiFi with SO model also starts with B0D4.

A hint, in that case: meet somewhere with public WiFi and ensure that the device can be registered before you part with your money. There are "blacklisted" devices floating around, and there's no reason whatsoever for anyone to be selling a new PW2 at below Amazon's price.

Yes, and take a buddy with you. This sounds like a shady deal. Actually, nothing about this deal sounds good. I think you are walking into a bad situation where you are going to most likely be offered stolen merchandise, or perhaps robbed. Was this a Craigslist ad?

I agree entirely. If you want a PW2, buy one from Amazon. Anyone offering one cheaply raises major red flags for me. If you decide to go through with this, make sure you meet in a public place - Starbucks and MacDonalds both have free WiFi and are good choices.

The box should have the serial number on it. PW1s start with B024 and PW2s ate reported to be B0D4 for the US, not sure what the UK serial number starts with but it should be different to B024.

Edited to say I wouldn't touch this 'deal' with a barge pole.

Yes this sounds even shadier than buying a unregisterable PW from ebay for $39..... What HarryT says about picking somewhere with free wi-fi available so you can check it can be registered ok is a good one.

It might be perfectly legitimate, or they could be stolen and you would only discover that when you try to register it and find it's been blacklisted - just remember, buyer beware & good luck!
