File size update

Hello,
I optimized sizes of several books (PDFs) in Calibre library. How can I make Calibre to update file size? - Calibre is still reporting old sizes.

Best.

calibre reports the size of the largest format for a book. So if you still have a large version then that size will be used.

It's not exactly so. If I edit a PDF (inside Calibre directory) and compress it, Calibre still reports former size, ie.:
I had 100MB PDF in Calibre folder, run Acrobat optimize and got 12MB file (and I overwritten the 100MB file with that 12MB file) = Calibre still reports 100MB filesize. How to "refresh" it?

Currently the only way is to remove and re-add it via the edit metadata dialog

Question

I was wondering if there has been an update about this topic in the last three years, because I also need this feature regularly. A plugin perhaps? Maybe as part of the metadata check plugin?

If I do a significant change to the book, metadata, etc. I remove the original in favor of the changed version but I do not delete the original. I have a folder I use for such things. I also store all my books in a "master book" folder in three separate locations, a usb stick, separate hard drive and my lap to hard drive in addition to the Calibre library.
I realize this is overkill but I'd hate to lose my books, especially the originals and edited copies.

The above is a Really OLD topic. Calibre Forum convention is to not resurect Old posts (Old = written during/about OLD Calibre versions)

The Quality check PI has: a Fix section that should scan your Library adjust reported file sizes. At the end, the screen will show/highlight those updated

Well, it may be an old topic, it still served a purpose

it did bring up a solution to a question that's been in the back of my mind too for some time.

I would not have thought to check the Quality Check plugin for this...thanks

There are 2 points:
1) Start a new thread, specially if a major release has past since last post in the thread.

2) Confusion reigns when a interface or feature set changes from start version to current version

Since Calibre has made a major release (number) every year. #1 should decide: New thread

IMHO #2 can lead to monster threads the New users rarely wade through, and those that do see conflicting (version related) information

Calibre has changed, Lots.
Plugins have now been created to remedy tasks like that above

And I can almost guarantee that there will be MORE changes and plugins to come
