A yellow veil on the screen. It must come from their supplier in Asia?

I really like the screen & text on my KK, and won't upgrade if I find the screen & text is not at least comparable in daylight.

Helgetus, I just loaded two different German books and there is no hyphenation. I wonder if it depends on the coding for them, though? These were ePubs that I converted myself. ETA: I just checked a regular Kindle book bought from Amazon, and there is still no hyphenation. For anyone who is wondering why that matters, languages like German have very long compound words. There is a single German word for something like: "school backpack factory" or "parking lot management office". Last edited by xendula; 10-06-2013 at 10:07 AM. |

Sorry to hear that, and it is probably the best decision for now, being how the quality of the PW2s may imrpove over time, anyway. I think I'll send mine back and try again in a few months as well.

I don't have a PW2, so I can't really give a complete answer. Anyway, even the Kindle Touch's firmware already included basic support for hyphenation (for KF7 only), but didn't make use of it. I assume that it's something similar now for KF8, judging by xendula's reply. Just because a hyphenation library is present somewhere doesn't mean that it's actually used. You need more than merely a basic library to do hyphenation correctly, most importantly: language-specific rules. And I don't find a trace of such rules anywhere in the PW2 firmware. |

It does not help that the built in fonts on the pw2 are very light, and it does not allow you to load custom fonts. But even when I embed a thicker font in azw3 files, it's still not as readable as the KK because the "ink" is just not as dark. This may be ok with other people, but for me, I rather have dark text albeit with darker background than light text with really white background. As an analogy, I'd rather read a newspaper with dark print rather than a glossy magazine with faint text. YMMV.

Thank you all for looking into the hyphenation question. So Amazon is preparing for a future update. Or maybe not if this is the case since the Kindle Touch. |

The round letters, in particular the rounded letters, look more crisp on the PW. That is of course due to the higher resolution. Since I read only with the light on, the PW has more contrast than the KK. I set the light to level 13 during the day and to level 1, 2, or 3 for night reading (dark room). During twilight I set it to 6 or 7. The PW2 has to be better than the PW1. Else it goes back to Amazon.
