I should have checked this before I answered. I always strip the DRM from my audiobooks once I download them, so it's not an issue for me.

Wow. Enhanced is clearly best. I'm surprised. Though I still find 4 acceptable.

Formats 2 and 3 sound exactly a like to me, and I would not be please if I paid for a book and could only get them in that quality.

Hey, anyone else been with Audible long enough to remember Format 1? I still have some CD's burned from that format. Painful.

They should remove the first two formats who would use them now days? The standard Audiobook now days is done in 64kbps. Anything more is not needed and anything less sounds too tinny.

I have a few old audiobooks in 32kbps but I am too spoiled to listen to them now.

I have a smart playlist in iTunes that is basically "all audiobooks with 0 plays" so that whenever I finish a book, it automatically deletes itself from the playlist (and my device).

That's my entire management strategy. I don't really use either; I only use iTunes to take advantage of the smart playlists feature.

If I want to re-listen to a book, I can download it from the Audible cloud right into the app. I don't mind retrieving them from the cloud when I have a specific title in mind, but I do get tired of having to scroll through books I've already heard to find a new one that I haven't.

Me too. I am surprised that some folks are saying it's a lot of work. If you liberate e-books, why not do the same thing with audio books?

Well, since I can't hear the difference between the four Audible formats, I have no problem with the quality!

I've tried several different converters, and they are not all created equal. The one that I use on my iMac converts with no discernible audio quality difference from the original Audible download. At least not to my ears. I've tried others that skip and pop.

I do agree that the whole process is a pain in the patookus, but I want to be able to transfer the audio files to whatever device on which I want to listen.
