Yes I think it's powered by the device, too. I thought the AAA batteries on the T1 case are better than powering the light by the device but in fact I always worry if I'm draining the batteries too much. I think one battery in the device should be enough, and it's more environmentally friendly of course. And concerning the question if the light is detachable: I don't think so. I think you put it into the cover somehow if you don't need it. If it would be detachable you'd need to care about the stylus and the light. You'd have three items then. I don't think that this would be a good idea. |

I might be wrong about the front light part, since I am still an observer of limited information. However, I still dont think that light cover it is powered by the reader: check out the photos leaked out over a month ago: you can see that the upper part of the reader on the back is pretty much sealed up, no ports or anything, there is no way to draw power out of there. So, this light case too me, seems runs on zero batteries. I dont think sony will go non AAA batteries just because they want to place smaller batteries on the back, and that kind battery will be a pain to replace over and over, I dont sony will ever make that kind of decision. Here, I stand by my original purposal: this light case is a smoke. |

If there's going to be a connection to draw power it will likely be along the "spine" edge like it was on the Kindle 3/keyboard.

Based on the photos, I don't see anywhere on the unit where a light can interface to the reader to draw power. Plus the device with the light is clearly inclined. Looks like external power to me. Are there two types of cases? Lighted and unlighted? I think someone found a link for an unlighted case above. There's still hope that this will be something interesting and Sony have come up with something innovative. Sadly, I think it's not the case. It's probably just an externally-powered lighted case (via a AAA) and a non-lighted case. Last edited by Rizla; 08-23-2013 at 11:10 AM. |

This will be very interesting to see, when it is released. I am still using the PRS-505.

actually, no. It's held up really well. Page turning seems to be a little slower.

Guess I'll be using my T-1 for a while yet. Only thing that would tempt me would be a frontlit display.

The firmware has the reputation of being rather flaky. Take a look at the various reports in the Kobo forum. I've no personal experience of Kobo devices, however.

I am mainly curious about why it is so much heavier if there are no added Functionality, ie light. Unless it is with included cover as some have suggested

Since the T3 weights 200 gramms and is quite heavier than the T1 and T2, maybe this light thing is inside the T3 somehow? And you put it out if you need it? Maybe that's just a stupid idea and there's no indication for this in the pictures we already have but that would explain why a) the device is heavier and b) there's no battery component in the case.
