Hi, i was just wondering is it possible to download metadata by typing in isbn?

Yes. That is actually the best way. No chance of getting metadata for another book or even another edition of the same book.

Just set the ISBN for the book and download metadata from the source of your choice.

The problem is that the ISBN isn't always known, and may even be wrong...

The Add from ISBN (option) actually works that way (Useful when creating an empty book to document a dead tree Library)

The Extract ISDN Plugin will extract ISDN from the text of a format file (assuming its there of course) - and put it in the Books Id (identifiers) field.
