It looks thicker which suggests that Sony have substantially altered their reader since the T2. To my mind, the most likely cause is a front-light. The buttons remain the same so it looks like it continues to be Android. Can't say I like the jiblet-style buttons, but at least they are still there. This is smart as it separates Sony from the all the other touch-only e-readers. Pesonally I think it looks pretty nice. If it can rooted without bricking and it has a front-light, then I will want one. New pic here: http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/26/s...er-prs-t3-fcc/ Last edited by Rizla; 06-28-2013 at 12:38 PM. |

I think the shape is attractive. If it has a light, I'm interested.

I think the bezel is deeper than on the T2, but I can't see anything there that might be a lighting system, though only the top bezel is visible.

Of course the T3 leaks today - I just bought a (used) T2 off eBay that gets delivered tomorrow It looks chunkier than the T1/T2, and the new shape looks nearly identical to the Kobo Glo. I kind of like the rounded bottom on the T1/T2 - it sits in hand nicely to use the bottom buttons. I'm really hoping for the higher resolution 1024x768 screen. I can't see Sony skimping on that now that it's the new 6" standard. Here's hoping that the S model has a front light. Pretty please, Sony? |

Front lighting doesn't require any extra thickness. Just compared my Kobo Touch and Kobo Glo and while the backs are slightly different, they are nearly the same thickness.

I didn't like the firmware changes in the T1 from the 650. But the only reason I bought a B&N Simple Touch Glow was specifically for the light. I've come to like the option to turn the page from the side bezel instead of swiping. And I like that I can look at the book lists in either metadata or folder view. But to have a reader that doesn't require me to register it to use it....? Oh, it would be tempting. And...if Sony upgraded to the newest version of ADE (which recognizes B&N DRM) ...it would be almost guaranteed! |

I need a new reader like I need a hole in my head. The T3 is going to need to have something special going for it other than just a light for me to get one, even as much as I like the Sony readers. Now if it had the newest ADE and a Kindle app and a light...... |

You are saying you dislike the way the T3 looks and yet you have a Kindle Touch. The Touch looks plainer then the T3. So does the PW. My 650 doesn't look anything special. In fact, most Readers don't look all that special. How is it you make a Reader look like one you want (just from the looks and nothing else) when it's a 6" screen? |

I am hoping the T3 has a hi-res screen. A front light, I'm not so sure it's a must have.

Well, I'm very happy to see that Sony has a new ebook reader coming out... but does it really have to be right after I bought the Kobo Aura? I will comfort myself with the fact that the Aura has a larger screen and more formatting options. (Actually, while not perfect, there is a lot about the Kobo that I really like. I wish I could merge the new Aura with some of the software from the Sony x50 series - it would make for an amazing ebook reader). I hope that they have a frontlight and hi-res screen. I'm not a fan of the T2 style buttons though, I think they should have stuck with the T1 style buttons. |
