Firmware 2.6.1: New Features and Bugs - Page 2

Has anyone seen the change log? The one that is embedded into the device that was there from previous versions It seems to be missing.

Geoff, I noticed that I had a black screen where words should be. It was strange because those words were there before it went to sleep. Then some strange things happened the book would close and say finished even though it was only 44% read. When I opened the book again it opened to a few pages b4 the bug happened. So I did a reset to factory, dumped all references to the sd card meaning I removed the kobo folders, and the calibre folders. I really have to wonder just how much they vetted this firmware b4 releasing it. Prehaps this is the reason I have not been pushed the update from the desktop? Maybe we are going to see a new release rather sooner then later.

There is the mysteriously skipped 2.6.0...

My guess is that the PNG non-display is sufficiently significant to warrant a re-release of the firmware.

Can someone confirm this funny-and-minor bug:
1. Open an epub (I haven't tried kepubs)
2. Send your Kobo to sleep
3. Wake it up
4. Tap to go to next page (or previous page)

Expected result: page changes
Actual result: current page refreshes, then page changes.

This adds a bit of unnecessary delay and flicker to one page change after each sleep...

It's happening here on my Glo. The same thing happens if you tap the middle to display the menu. A full refresh when returning from sleep, or even on the first page turn to clear up any leftovers from the sleep screen, but before turning the page doesn't make sense.

Chess seems to work fine on my Glo, at least I can lose a game without encountering any problems.

I didn't notice it at first, but now that you point it out I do. It seems like a new feature that comes with its own new bug. Refreshing the screen on the first page turn to clear the shadow from the sleep screen would be a feature, but refreshing just before turning the page would seem to be a bug.

Edit: It occurs with kepubs as well as epubs.

I don't know this bug comes at 2.6.1.
problem is below.
while reading kepub, go home screen and reading again it then page moved
start of chapter. eg>i've read 24page of chapter 5 and go homescreen and select to read book again. page moved 1page of chapter 5.

Actually, after testing it a bit I see the screen doesn't refresh unless I touch it within about 10 seconds of waking from sleep. If I take longer than 10 seconds to read the first page, there is no refresh when I turn the page. So the new feature added is just that the screen refreshes (clearing the shadow from the sleep screen image) if touched within about 10 seconds of waking from sleep. It is not connected with page turning at all.

This doesnt occur on my Glo, and in any case I don't think this problem is new to 2.6.1, some people have reported something similar happening with various firmware versions, especially with sideloaded kepubs.

hmm. yes. i used kepub converted with calibre(use kobo touch extended plugin). you mean getable kepubs in kobo store hasn't this problem?
i can have a conclusion converted kepub is not compatible perfectly. thanks.

Do you have the latest version of the extended driver? And followed all the instructions? The developer of the driver is still working on issues like this. Have a look in the thread for the driver in the calibre forum for info or to discuss problems.

If you are using kepubs converted with the Extended Kobo driver then this is very likely the cause of the problem. (It could occur with other books though, as there could be a fault in the original book, or if the device's database is corrupt it might not be able to update the reading position when the book is closed).
