Kindle DX 3g
Hi all
Just bought Kindle DX wireless(US), then found out that I cant use the 3G signal in the UK Had a thought, as the Kindle DX Graphite works on 3G in the UK, can I replace the 3G card in my DX with one from a DX Graphite and get a signal on 3G Have looked into it a bit and the 3G card is basicaly a PCI-E card and so the replacement is easy, but would my DX use it all help appreciated |

If you're getting a Kindle DX Graphite, would it not be simpler simply to use that?

It MAY be tricky to get one in the first place... (as a standalone)
that aside.. This was the best teardown of a non DXg I could find http://www.rapidrepair.com/Merchant2...n=cp-kindle-dx and more specifically the wireless card http://www.rapidrepair.com/guides/ki...-exposed-1.jpg I don't see why your plan WOULDN'T work, but don't take that as a cast-iron yes as not only have I never done it - I have never head of it being done... that said.. if you find yourself short of a module... you should find them in here https://bitbucket.org/twobob/kual-system and I DO recall a bluetooth card being rammed into one and that eventually working. (tiny few extra notes here) also... The difference between the wifi and 3g k3's is certainly not OS based - as they share the same one. So... YES, with caveats. Oh... and I would get myself serial-level access before trying anything so outré-monde Last edited by twobob; 03-19-2013 at 03:09 PM. Reason: found the bluetooth link |

Yeah, your right hunnymonster, that is the plan
I got a module coming from powerbook medics, in the USA, from ebay as soon as it arrives I will try it and see what occurs, I've already pulled the dx apart just to see how easy it was and it was easy, I pull laptops apart often enough, and it was easier than that so thanks for the replys, and I'll keep you posted |

Hi everyone! Thanks for doing this research already! I have problem with a used Kinde DX international (B005) in which probably the 3G module is faulty. It is unable to connect to the wireless even where the Kindle Keyboard 3G has full reception. When trying to switch the wireless on the 'reception-bars' are flashing a couple times, than going offline again. (I was doing software update, restarts, speaking to Amazon - they said it is device related surely).
Anyway if you would succeed Noddy-007 I would have a go as well with changing the 3g module, so please keep us updated! Many thanks! |

Well, short answer, It didnt work
First I recieved the wrong item from medicbooks, but they did give me a full refund I sourced another module, and it came 2 days later, the correct item this time, an anydata DTP-600w After fitting it did not connect, it seemed to try as the little indicator bars flashed grey So unless its a duff module, fitting this module is no good Anyone have suggestions as to connecting a Kindle DX (U.S.) to the 3g network in the U.K. Cheers |

Hi! Good news from my side. I have ordered and received my spare 3g module too, but I did not even need to use it. After I have dismounted the Kindle as I just flipped over to check the 3g connection appeared and is working so far. I have only took down the back cover. Magic touch, or I don't know.
Anyway I have spotted a difference between my DX and the one the picture linked above (http://www.rapidrepair.com/guides/ki...-removal-1.jpg). In mine near the 3g module there is a SIM card slot with a card in: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vksh8pfcp5...indle%20dx.jpg I did not take it apart more, but would think that it is a good trace to move on to make the B004 work internationally. Hope it is useful. And if anybody is interested I have a 3G module for sale ![]() |

I suspect that you have a different Kindle DX to the OP.
The OP probably has the original "US only" DX which had a CDMA radio in it. This was then superseded by the "International" DX with a 3G radio in it. A US "international" Kindle works absolutely fine in the UK. |
