				PDOC tag in Sigil?

I've just posted in the "mobi" forum about removing the PDOC tag from a mobi file. However, as an afterthought, as I create my ebooks through the excellent Sigil, I'm wondering is there any way to prevent the PDOC tag being created there?

Once I create the epub I use Kindle Previewer/Gen to convert the file to a mobi. Is there anything I can do in the edit meta data stage in Sigil to make sure that the file is recognized as a book and not a document when converted to a mobi? |

No. That particular mobi exth record-type (cdetype 501) has no epub correlation/counterpart. There's nothing you can do to the epub that will affect what cdetype kindlegen will designate as far as I know. But out of curiosity, why do you think kindlegen is setting it to PDOC? My kindlegen-created files don't even have an exth record-type 501.

Whenever I transferred the mobi files to my Kindle Fire they were appearing in the "docs" and not in "books". In investigating why this was so the answer seemed to be the PDOC tag. When I removed the PDOC tag in Calibre the files then appeared in "books" on the Kindle Fire okay, but removing the tags in this way meant going through the conversion process which altered the files in other ways too. What I really want to do is just get the mobi files into "books" without full conversion.

Then I tried the Java Mobi editor. When I opened one of my original mobi files in that there was no sign of a 501 CDE type in the EXTH records. So I added one, but the new saved file STILL didn't appear in "books" on the Kindle. So, I'm mystified and still trying to find a solution. |

Sigil definitely won't be of any help to you in that regard.

I had that problem, and I solved it by modifying the .mobi files directly with MobiPerl, as discussed here. And as DiapDealer says, it has nothing to do with Sigil.
