What are your PW light settings?

Just curious what light settings you find themselves using most? In bright rooms and in dark rooms. (I'm sorry if this is a repeat thread, I couldn't find one.)

When I first got my PW, I found myself using it at high levels in bright rooms (around 20) and around 12 in low light rooms. However, after using it for a few months now, I find I'm using it at lower light levels in general, about 10 during the day and then at night I use it in a completely dark room at about 5 when I first turn the light off. Then down to about 2 or 3 after a bit. What are you all finding to be the best light settings for your reading? |

Outside, when it's brightest, I use it at 17. In brightly lit rooms I go for 7-10; In dark rooms I go under 5.

I remember doing a lot of fiddling when I first got my PW. I started out with 17 during the day. Since then I have gone down and down.

Now I just put it at 4 or 5 and leave it there. If I read in the bedroom with a side lamp, I go down to 3. I never read in complete darkness. I could probable go to 2 if I did that. This gives me a kindle that is just a tad brighter in the backround than my K3 and I can go all day in any light situation and not have to fiddle with it anymore. 4-5 daytime 3 darkish room |

I use 8 in a lighted room and 5-4 in the dark. I find this most comfortable for my eyes. I don't see me changing it any. It's perfect for long hours of reading.

12 for bright rooms... 4 for dark rooms... I guess that PWs don't have that much consistency when it comes to LED performance, so this survey might not be too meaningful... my 4 might not equal your 4

I have my Paperwhite on 12 all the time, except when it is bright enough and I turn the light off. If you are interested in turning the light off, I made a small guide in this post that does not require a jailbreak.

For the curious: No, this is not how I turn my light off personally. If you look in the thread that above link is in, you can find it in post #63. Be warned, that it is not recommended to do unless you are comfortable with it and understand the risks that are involved. It also requires a jailbreak and usb network. It is much easier and safer to use the non-jailbreak method. |

Always on 4, whether in a dark room or in full daylight. (Played about with it to start with, and it does go amazingly white, but really only wanted the light for night reading.)

Been using mine on 4 all the time for the last few days. I never read in complete darkness, or, at the moment sunshine (UK weather!) and it seems to make the screen paper white without being too artificial.

I usually use between 12 and 16. In my poorly lit computer room, 16 is what I have on now and it looks good.

Like many others I played with it a lot when I first got it. Now I leave it on 6 pretty much all the time. It works well for me in both bright and dimly lit rooms.

I use 22 all the time for my PW. In low light settings I use my KFHD7-32 with Autobrightness and White fonts on a black background.
