Today I updated my kobo glo firmware to 2.1.5. It updates, and then got stuck on the Restarting screen !

I tried the reset button at the bottom but it doesn't do anything... Anyway I can factory reset to get back to an old firmware ?? Last edited by fedcod; 10-18-2012 at 09:01 AM. |

Just wondering... was this a manual upgrade or one pushed via Kobo Desktop / WiFi ?

This occurred after installing the Kobo Touch firmware found in this thread (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=185660) on the Kobo Glo. This is not supported and it can cause damage to your device. We distribute the upgrades through the desktop or Wifi for this very reason, so that the right device gets the right upgrade.

I'm so dumb, I red somewhere in the forum that there was only one firmware for the Touch, the Glo and another one... Well, there should be a check on the device that this the right firmware for the device.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=193411 You can fix it, if all else fails, by breaking it further. The back of the device can be removed, and the firmware accessed directly by removing the factory installed sd card. You'll have to get a full backup copy of the firwmare from someone, and if you aren't sure how to restore an OS image like this, I woudl advise finding someone to help. (A local Linux Users Group would probably have the kinds of nerds you need.) (Remember the days when Kobo made devices that would sensibly boot from Sd card?) |

I found how to fix the kobo. In fact it's really simple. In supposing recovery is mount as /media/recoveryfs and root as /media/rootfs. I fix it with this command:

	rm -rf /media/rootfs/* cd /media/rootfs/ tar xvzf /media/recoveryfs/upgrade/fs.tgz That's all. @mdclements I don't broke my kobo ;-) |

If you now have a bricked Glo, return it as a warranty return.

Don't mention the firmware upgrade. Just say it isn't working. This is not to mislead the seller, but will avoid them not understanding what the cause of the problem is (your average book store staff won't know about firmware). And the device is clearly defective, if it will allow the loading of firmware for a different device to break it completely, with no option of doing a factory reset. Especially as Kobo prior advice on this is that the different firmware versions would be 'incompatible', not that it would render your device completely inoperatable. |
