I have my father's slide rule, very high-end, which he got as a present from his father. I love it. It has my father's handwritten name, in schoolboy block letters. Charming. I have searched high and low for the instruction manual so I can figure out how to use it beyond basic multiplication. (It also has MY name in childish block letters, because I was young when he gave it to me.) Last edited by Taylor514ce; 07-24-2008 at 10:12 AM. |

). So, using Dad's pens to write in my diary (I'm thinking of addressing him in each entry, which will help give me focus, and feels apt)...I love it. Cheers, Marc Last edited by montsnmags; 07-25-2008 at 09:12 AM. | |

bou!faction The plosive detonation of one's head (recognised by the distinctly French-sounding "bou!" noise of deflation) that occurs upon receipt of an overloading sensory input of the "cute" variety. |

ugy Design of such an anachronistic, unconventional, erratic or démodé variety that it promotes an immediate response of apparently universal and vitriolic condemnation, almost as immediately contradicted by equal vitriol and strong defence from purchasers numbered by the product's apparent market success. It's not meant to be "Ouch". I specifically chose the arguably neutral terms "anachronistic, unconventional, erratic or démodé" rather than used explicitly negative terms to emphasise the disagreement and the subjectivity (and potential redundancy outside of the personal) of the reaction. It is meant as a defusing of the purported "argument". Thus, the Kindle is ugy...and I want (a fully-supported) one. Cheers, Marc Last edited by montsnmags; 08-12-2008 at 04:45 AM. |
