Samsung has revealed its latest flagship Android-powered phone, the Galaxy Nexus, after a slight delay. Samsung and Google attributed the lateness to deference to Steve Jobs’s passing.

Now, however, thanks to statements made by Samsung’s president of mobile, Shin Jong-kyun, we know that the entire phone was designed around Apple--specifically to avoid future legal battles.

Shin spoke to the press before the launch, and noted that Samsung’s plans from now on include avoiding "everything we can" in terms of patent battles with Apple, and that it is taking "patents very seriously." The whole field is complex and it can prove hard to identify infringing patents, according to Shin, and the firm is working to make the Nexus "100 percent free" from Apple lawsuits.

In respect to some of the patents, the jury found not just infringement but wilful infringement, which I think would affect the damages.

That may also have been an error by CNET, Forbes are reporting that the answer to that question was No.

Samsung have pointed out a couple of inconsistencies in the verdicts, which the jury have been asked to consider again, but only in relation to two issues, a couple of million or so.

And for those obsessed by "rounded corners", Samsung was found not to have infringed D'889 for the Galaxy Tab 10.1. 889 being:

“clean front, edge-to-edge glass, thin bezel, thin outer border, and rounded corners of a tablet”

If it stops other manufacturers attempting the same thing? Probably. The money isn't the point, for either company.
