prof crash - i figured that
![]() snake: that's true. i'm weaning off the bad stuff myself. stuffing myself with unhealthy food leaves me feeling pretty icky physically. in fact, if i'm going to eat the good stuff, i'm going for better quality yogurts, cheeses, and stuff like that

Agree with pshrynk.
Ma suffered overacidation. We switched to locally made food where possible (vegs poultry bread etc.) lotta more expensive but tastes loke the old times and we re healthier than ever. |

Crap. I got an email from my mom's tenant that the AC is acting weird at her place. I already had to deal with a major plumbing thing over there and a couple of little things at my places (which added up and I still need to get the annual servicing of my AC and I want to get the carpets cleand). I know I can deduct that from my rent (I rent from Mom as well) but, honesty, this is all just a good lesson in why I will never, ever buy a house.

I've been house sitting for friends for two weeks now and there is this squeeking/beeping sound I can't locate which is driving my crazy. At first I thought it was my notebook or cooler, but that wasn't it. Neither is it the clock, tv, speakers, LED lights, hifi system or a toy. It's mainly heard between the full hour and half past with the loudest squeeks around a quarter past, but sometimes it isn't heard for a couple of hours. I've been house sitting in this house ever since they've bought it three years ago and never heard the sound.
I'm now thinking it's something at the neighbours' place. It's so annoying not knowing what it is. |

Nope, had that last year and they beep every 90 seconds or so. It's just another hour to go before I go home so I'm not really caring anymore, the only thing I care about is sleeping in my own bed again. Still, I am intrigued by the mystery.

A sad night in our neighborhood tonight. The neighborhood is laid out like a large circle, with spokes leading to cul-de-sacs. Everyone walks after dinner - and half own dogs, which are mostly on leash or too old to break out of a walk. A couple of folk have untrained dogs that are notorious for escaping from the house and running through the streets. Neighbors are used to them and catch them to return them.
Tonight, one of these escapee dogs, Raven, who lives with a disabled lady that uses a scooter to walk her, escaped and was hit by a mini-van and killed. I can't count the number of times I had captured & returned Raven to her mom. She was just an overgrown pup with too much energy, and her mom was not physically able to train her - her kids gave her Raven for company. A very sad situation .... |

That is awful. Hopefully she gets a new dog but one that is more sedate and suited to her abilities. People really need to think about the needs of the human and make sure the dog matches those needs.

We had to put Ina new fence and move the wood pile twice because Caya jumped the fence into the neighbors yard. The good news is that the yards have fences and she was safe.

I've thought of putting in a higher fence, but don't have the budget for it at present. She doesn't run much on me, but frequently takes off when the wife lets her out.
Norton used to fly out the front door whenever he got the chance, but he's mellowed a bit. |

We realized that we couldn't afford to completely 'fence' in our veranda, enough to keep in a determined cat, so instead, we 'netted' it in. We used the very fine netting farmers used to keep birds out of their crops. So thin that we almost don't see it, but Felicity does... And as it's not rigid, she can't climb it. We put up a could of bamboo garden poles at the ends and in the middle of the veranda, and hung the netting on them. We used a double layer around the bottom 2 feet and made sure to have planters holding down the edges so Felicity can get under. She has spent countless hours staring at the net, pacing and poking around the base trying to find a weak spot, but eventually gave up, found a couple of higher shelves and branches to hang out in, and has accepted her confinement. Total cost... about $10.
