No, not at all. What I meant was that I have a huge backlog of books, many of which I've paid more than $3 for, so that for me a book like this would have to be an impulse buy.

I may be in the minority, but he did ask for opinions and I just wanted to make the point that there might not be an effective difference between $5 and $10 for some people. I suspect that for many things, eBooks included, the graph of sales numbers vs. price may not be a straight line; hit an impulse point and sales may jump. Or, I may be completely wrong.

Hmm that was surreal.... I read this thread, and was a little interested. (double checked and discovered I had the original Ace double already [so I wont be buying this.])

But I wanted to see what other books you had written so I wikied "Jerry Sohl".

Your dead.

At that point I realized you never actually Said you wrote the book. (I just thought Sohl [or Burt] was a pen name.)

I had not realised that Author Self Promotions included promoting dead authors old works.

Thanks for the pointer. I just posted my own thoughts on that thread. (I take some small responsibility for egging Mark Coker on, as I badgered him to let me have his data, sanitized, so I could do that very analysis he ultimately did.)

One has to look at Mark's results carefully to analyze what they find. They actually support higher prices for ebooks, not lower.

And -- drum roll! -- in yet another pricing experiment, I'm lowering the price for a short time on THE MARS MONOPOLY to $4.99.

(I just told Amazon to do it; it may take them a few hours to process it. It's at the lower price now on the ReAnimus Press store.)

I will, as always, be very curious to see how this experiment goes, and to hear your thoughts.

I just purchased The Mars Monopoly at the new lower price and I've found that the cover does not display in ADE for Windows 1.7.2.

In the page about the author, there is supposed to be a picture of the author that is not included in the ePub.

There is an error in the file clean_split_001.xhtml that could cause it to maybe not work in some reading programs.

I've also noticed a lot of the classes have dir="ltr" tacked onto them and that does nothing in ADE. Again, might be an issue in some reading programs.

Are these errors going to be fixed and a new edition released to replace the one that's out there now?

@JSWolf, aha, I see what you're saying, and thanks for the heads up. ADE is known to be a bit buggy about displaying covers (or, to be PC, it's "more unforgiving about jpeg file formats than most other programs).

So, yes, there's a new version up there as of now that you can download. Let me know if you have any other problems.

Enjoy the book! I think it's a fun read.

Actually, I've gone through it and clean up most of the code and made sure it was well formatted. Would you be interested in seeing it? If so, please PM with an email address to send it to.

I fixed the cover issue by loading it into Photoshop Elements. I did tweak the image so it looks better and it now works fine.

@JSWolf, thanks. As for pricing, alas, so far the price reduction hasn't caused any huge increase in sales. This reinforces my notion that the value is inherent in the book, not in the price. While admittedly it's only one title, it is consistent with the behavior of other titles, and it isn't a counterexample.

You will get another once I get paid this week. Three birthdays, two car bills and our mortgage get in the way of purchasing entertainment items.

Like your little survey trial earlier, you are simply not giving the whole thing long enough to create accurate results.
