Big discounts at BooksOnBoard

The announcement is here. Discounts vary from book to book, but are usually big. Based on the price drops I see on the books on my wishlist their claim of 40%-50% may well be true for some books.

Thanks Blue!!!! Normally, BoB is higher than Amazon, however, I found a few books discounted that actually completed a couple of series I have. These books have been on my Amazon Wishlist for a while so it felt good being able to secure them.

Yeah, not being one of the price fixers that publisher I have picked up a bunch of Mammoth books this year. That one came up in my recs a few days ago.

Thanks, looks right up my alley. I see they have a few other "mammoth" books for the same price.

Yes, I have bought some others from there.

The Mammoth Book of Golden Age SF, too, with ten classic short novels. Was about 3.50 that one. Still great value.

The Mammoth Book of Short Spy Novels - which has only official Modesty Blaise digital story I believe.

Apart from the discount on ebooks, BookOnBoards offers discount on audiobooks. They claim that it is 40-50% and that it will last till the end of the month.
Unofrtunately, they don't have a dedicated section for audiobooks, so browsing them is a little tricky. You can search by publisher and you will get, which can then be listed in categories. There are some ommissions (some titles, which are on offer, but do not show in the listing), however, so it is just a workaround.

When searching for the following publishers, you can get a list of their audiobooks:

Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Random House Audio
Books on Tape
Tantor Media
Brilliance Audio
Simon & Schuster Audio
Dreamscape Media LLC (I am not sure their books have discounts because most of them are >$15).
Hachette Audiobooks
AudioGO Ltd
Penguin Audio
Listen & Live Audio, Inc.
Recorded Books, LLC

Another option to browse is to actually find the book on Audible and check if BooksOnBoard have it too (sometimes they don't, Audible have more books at the time).

I haven't personally downloaded any audiobooks from BooksOnBoard, because it requires Overdrive Media Console, which I can't get to work under Linux with Wine and the Android app is not very functional.

I bought and downloaded an audiobook from BooksOnBoard yesterday, and it works just fine!

About format: They offer most books both in MP3 and WMA for the same price. MP3 is double the size, but WMA comes with DRM, which I dislike on principle. My (few) other audiobooks come straight from CD, so I don't yet know which download format to prefer. What would those of you with greater experience recommend?

Get MP3 if available and/or the price is comparable. It can't be DRMed and trust me, trying to get and convert WMA even for "free" library audiobooks can be such an incredible hassle that I wouldn't spend any amount of actual money on a DRM WMA audiobook.

You're sure right there, I got the email from them about the audio book sale and instantly visited the site and was rather dismayed that there wasn't a straight up tab labeled audiobooks. Trying to find anything was a nightmare in the end I gave up

You have a lot more patience than me

I hate it when websites are not easy to navigate.

MP3 definitely. Guaranteed to save you headaches. And to work. You can make a lower quality version of them if you wanted to take a smaller version somewhere, too.

thanks for your quick replies. Isn't it fortunate that the first book I bought was in MP3 anyway?

As for finding the audiobooks at BoB, I looked for favorite authors in advanced search and clicked on the audiobook options there.
