How anyone can find 50 Shades titillating is beyond me. It just made me roll my eyes alot. It could be because I'm jaded I read romances and when I read an Erotic Romance I approach it the same way I read romance which is just a story for me and the sex is just an element to the story.

I found 50 Shades full of emotional drama. It was a roller coaster ride for me. I felt angry, annoyed, sad and a few moments of triumph that were shortly lived because there was really no character change or resolution to the issues that the lead male character had.

To be honest, and I suspect this is TMI here, if I'm going to use erotic romance/erotica like porn is typically used, I would just page to the sex scenes and not read the rest of the book. If I'm reading the whole book it's because I want the story. There are places like literotica to go if I want the equivalent of porn; if I buy an erotic romance I'm looking for a romance that has some kind of sexual theme and love story to go with the hot sexx0ring.

It depends on the story and author. I know of several Erotic Romances that would sell fine as mainstream romance. Example Lora Leigh's Breed series comes to mind as one example. In Fact Lora released a romance version of her Tempting the Beast on her yahoo group that was just as good as the Erotic version. Ms. Leigh could have easily sold her Breeds series as romances and it would have sold maybe even better than it did as erotic romance. She did later break into mainstream romance with her Elite Ops series.

Oh but her sex scenes are SO good. I love Lora's sex scenes. Many books, from historical romance to erotica, I skim the sex scenes because they are boring. Not Lora's. She knows how to write hot scenes! I wouldn't want to read Tempting the Beast w/o the erotic scenes.

Actually I think you would of enjoyed it, some of the plot and characters were changed and it was a really nice read. She does romantic just as well. I agree she can write really good erotic scenes but the point is she could of sold the series with romantic love scenes because the storyline was just that good. So to say all Erotic Romance wouldn't sell without the Erotic part isn't true.

Oh that is so true. Some Erotic Romance has excellent story lines. Some are so bad they deserve to be burned (if they were paperback).
