Ah, yes, some good rides there! I do miss the bike for that. And completely agree about back roads and no Interstates. Though on that one east coast trip we did cheat and hit the Interstate to get back on time. We had a bit over extended trying to add in one more state.

I too cheated a bit on the Maine-to-Florida ride...but only for about 30 miles. I got stopped by a Georgia Patrol officer, complete with mirror sun glasses, who took exception to my laid-back feet-on-the-highway pegs and my Vermont license plates; "Son, we don' ride motorcikles lak that hea. That is unsafe opp-oration of a motor ve-hickel." He wrote me an official warning and let me go. A mile down the road I saw an entrance to the Interstate, and beat feet out of Georgia into Florida! I had visions of me swinging a scythe on a Georgia chain gang while Strother Martin stood over me telling me that what we have is a failure to communicate!

Earl Gray tea. Today is housecleaning day! I can't wait to get it over with - I'm a very messy person. I made a cake yesterday (turned out great!) and the kitchen looks like a flour and sugar bomb hit it.

Tweleve years!!!!
We have no kids, but my brothers and sisters have 30 somethings each with no chance of launching them into the world as the kids have kids. Average house price where they live is $1 million. Which is anywhere near the CBD or beach where they work. I have no suggestions except . . . . Make them pay a bit of board for @&$)(;:/- sake. Or they'll never - ever - ever leave. Free food, free rent . . . Uuuuurrrrrrgggh! Oops. Red wine |

Housing costs in NYC are so high that it's the norm for a person to live with his parents until marriage... if it happens. And kids take over parent's apartments when the parents pass on (or retire to Florida) as the rents are still within almost sane levels. It's not uncommon to find a 45 year old still living with their folks.

Na, isn't it a little bit early to tell our Prof all this? Isn't she still looking forward to all the joys that parenthood will bring?

LOL that picture has been posted on my Facebook page with a great deal of regularity. And taped up in my cubicle at work.
I have been reading the books on the first few months trying to get prepared but I know that there is no real preparation that you can do. So I am trying to sleep as much as I can now and practice being patient with my two very energetic dogs who think napping after work is a bad idea and try wrestling on top of me. Two more months, if things go to plan. Not that Iam counting on things going to plan. The nursery is painted. Hopefully we will have a crib and changing table assembled T the end of the weekend. The chest of drawers and old nightstands, which don'tmatch a thing in the room are going in the closet and I can start to put things away. My cousin sent a couple boxes of her sons baby clothes and other assorted baby gear that will arrive in a week so we will know what we need to get in the way of clothes and the like. I am enjoying the illusion of feeling prepared. |

Of course the many long nights holding him in my arms while he screamed and writhed in pain... that was great bonding time. Yeah that what we call it right? Thankfully that got resolved around 18 months... or was it 20? Right around there anyways.... Oh, and and btw - the emergency room at 2am is not bad of a place to hang out, at least not if your in to outlandish and freaky people watching. I would suggest you bring your own coffee though. BUT, yeah Prof.. you will be fine. EVERYTHING will be perfect... nothing will go wrong. OK fine that is a blatant bold faced lie, but honestly in the end... you wont trade it for anything. And I really do mean that. I highly suggest you read 2 books now... while you still have a brain and understand adult conversation. James Dobson's "Bringing up Boys" and "The New Dare to Disciple." Additionally, I would suggest both you, but esply your husband read "Raising a modern day knight" by Robert Lewis. I do not know where you stand regarding Christianity, so I will state that All three of those books are written by strong practice Christians. Coffee in el mug-o |
