Thinking of diving in and getting a Kobo but heard touch screen can be iffy. Can any of you kobo touch owners put my mind at rest - has latest firmware update sorted the niggles?

You have to remember that people in forums are normally here to complain if they have issues. So problems can seem worse then they are. The wife and I each have a touch and they have been working perfectly since we got them. We just bought her mom one for her birthday and she loves it. As for the firmware - our work fine. No double tap issues and page turns are fast. So we are happy. |

I've had two Kobo Touches and neither of them have had problems, I also know someone else who has a Kobo Touch with no Touch screen problems. Not to say that some people don't have screen problems, it seems that some devices have Touch screen problems, just like the Kindle Touch.

No screen problems with mine. All functions work fine. Mine works best with a light touch, my husband's with a heavier one. Luckily we ordered them the right way round! Mine is lilac, his black. The only thing I find tricky about the screen is touching the very top of the screen icons. I do have fingernails which, although not very long, make that tricky.

I do not have any problems with the touch screen. I have had other problems but they were corrected with upgrades. I love my Kobo Touch.

No problems here. I've had mine since for 8 or 9 months now, updating my firmware along the way, and I haven't had trouble with any version of the firmware.

For me, no. I still have problems with missed taps (and other problems). Maybe browse this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=172355 |

I have KT and Sony T1 you quickly adapt how you touch for reliable page turns. Force of touch does not matter as so called touch is breaking invisible IR light beams and doesn't have to touch screen to turn page. Some KT software versions would quickly respond to quick touch while other versions required slightly longer touch. Regardless you adapted to get reliable page turns without special effort with a few hours use. T1 uses swipes or buttons for page turns which also becomes as natural unthinking way to turn pages as turning pages in real book. It has pinch zoom and other requested features that are on KT wish list. T1 handles PDF books different than Kobo readers. |

My KT is very unpredictable in how it'll respond to touches, sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it'll go back when I asked it to go forwards, sometimes it'll take 3 or 4 presses or swipes to get it to turn the page - but on the whole I still use it more than my Kindle. I think it's geek in me that enjoys the technically more capable device and relishes the challenges presented by it, rather than the dumbed down if slightly better established competition. (probably why I use an android phone instead of an iphone ;D )

I'm very happy with my KT also. I haven't upgraded to the latest version (17 from memory) as there were comments about losing margins on public domain books, which is what I have on my reader in the main. I'll wait and see whether I upgrade when the next version comes out.

Thanks for all the replies, more reassured on the KT know. Filmo as you have both would you recommend one over the other?

I use and like both KT & T1 and only bought T1 when price was $79 at Best Buy. Sony T1is much quicker and easier to find wanted book using collections which is books sorted by meta data tags that are included with epubs. Mine has 2228 books and 172 collections. Books library can be sorted by date, title, author, file name or last read. Sorting by author might be by authors first name unfortunately unless corrected by Calibre. It reflows text in PDF books making some more readable. Books can show cover thumbnails with title under or just title list with instant display change. Changing how books are sorted takes long time with 2228 books and can't do anything until sort is completed. It uses android OS and is easily rooted. I have not rooted mine yet. Good web browser. Check out reviews & try one at Best Buy or Walmart. Sony Reader form https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=100 Search for revews |

That's a great price for a T1. Think I'm gonna go Kobo, it's £80 here versus £130 for the T1. Can't see where the T1 gives almost double the price worth of quality/functionality

My husband has the T1. He was going to get a KT but Kobo took too long to become available in Australia after blocking the ability to order them from overseas as I had done. I think the big advantage it has over the KT is being able to sort by category. However, if you are looking for a particular author on your KT, it is easy enough to do a search by starting typing in the first few letters of the surname, or of the title of a particular book. And you can put several books on your shortlist if you know you are going to want to read them in the next little while. Where you have a number of books by one author which should be read in order, it is easy enough to precede the book title with a number using Calibre, so that you don't have to remember which title comes next in the series. For example, I have the complete Forsyte Saga on my KT, and simply started off 01 The Man of Property, 02 Indian Summer of a Forsyte, and so on. |
