You dont' know what gets sent. When syncing my ipad one day it asked me if it could send 'diagnostic' data home. I said no! But you don't really know. All those cookies, logfiles, etc floating around. Best to have a reader 'off the grid' and load sideways via usb.

"Best" is very much a matter of personal judgement. Personally I love the fact that Amazon keeps track of what I buy, and offers me things that it thinks I might like. I've encountered all sorts of things via Amazon's recommendations that I probably wouldn't have found out about otherwise.
