because thats what I would spend to get the basic E-ink kindle for pure E- book reading an leave the 3D gaming,video ,comic books Drawing& painting and other full color" Android tablet computing" for my Fire.

I do plan to order one but not because it's shiny or new but because It will finally solve the solution to my problem of reading in the dark. The Fire is okay for that but it's hard on the eyes at times and it's not good to read LCD light before bed. Not mention it's weighs 14 ounces! I don't need a tablet I know that now I have one. If I didn't use it as a reader it would just sit on a shelf. It's just more convenient to use my phone instead for the other things.

I'm not going to order one. I read just fine on the KF. For reading at the lake and beach, I'll use the old K2 for two reasons: 1. Glare 2. I don't want to mess the KF up at the lake and the beach.

Yeah the KF would not be a good idea near water even if the commercial with it by the pool shows otherwise. The K4 would be fine for it. It seems to do better in outdoors. I plan to replace my K4 with the K7 though.

Look in the news forum area. Amazon is currently testing it. One lucky blogger has gotten to see it although the bezel was covered up so yes it's a real thing. B&N has theirs already for pre-order

Nothing official yet but when "it" is announced it won't be "GlowLight." I've read in two different places that Amazon has developed their own Flexlight technology with LEDs numbering less than with GlowLight. It will be interesting to see what actually materializes.

I have an HP desktop bought in 2007 and I love it. I have put in a new power supply, video card, a couple of extra backup hard drives (one I can pull out of the front of the computer to grab in an emergency), replaced the original drive with an SSD card (best upgrade I ever did), replaced the DVD drive.....etc., etc.
It has one of those personal media drive slots so I have about three of those.
I plan to keep it until the motherboard goes on it. It has a great fast CPU - 7.1 Experience Index. The computer as a whole is 6.9 Experience Index so it's pretty fast.

Yeah, my main home desktop is also ancient in computer terms, too. I've upgraded the drive, the RAM, the OS. But I was sticking to talking about rechargeable battery powered devices to not drift too far off topic.

Ice Cream Sandwich for the KF just got hardware acceleration this morning. Truly amazing. HD video and the works. Running Google Chrome, the Adobe Touch apps, and all the greatest apps for Android/ICS. Just wow. We are so close to a stable build.

Speaking of upgrades, I don't know how you guys go through so many hard drives. I've never had one die on me before...

RE: ICS on Fire. Cool! Any other significant feature gaps or unsupported hardware, or is it down to the tweaking now? I'm rather surprised at how happy I am with the Fire as is, but this would be tempting.

As for drives the one I mentioned above was just to add a larger one, but I have had several drives fail, from actual head crashes, to power damage to just plug it in and nothing happens.

Not really. The only thing that really hinders the Kindle is the fact that it doesn't have Bluetooth. But they're going to TRY and add USB host *MAYBE*, it depends on how they feel after completing ICS. The GPS and Camera feature is in the profile, so you can get Instagram, and some of the apps that depend on it just so you can use the benefit of the big screen. You could still plug in your headset and it'll pick up the audio.

Pretty much tweaking, making things a little better, and a few more changes to get the charge indicators working. It's a development rom, but I find it stable enough for me.

And WOW! Maybe it's because I've gone through like 50 computers, but I've never had that happen before. And I've used computers that were on their last legs, motherboards all screwed up, shake it and it'd freeze, and stuff like that. Otherwise they were fine.
