Subgroups on Mac Lion

I'm trying to create a hierarchical Genre column as referenced here: http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/sub_groups.html; however, the pictures are leading me to believe that these are tailored for Windows. I cannot (or can't figure out) how to make sure the column is created as a "hierarchical" column. The result is that any time I create a new genre or sub genre, i.e Non-Fiction.Biography, it creates an entirely new genre not nested under the overarching one. In this case, rather than Biography being listed under Non-Fiction, it is simply the genre "Non-Fiction.Biography." The column is being listed as CSV, but the results do not delineate. Any help, or is this a shortcoming in the Mac version? Thanks in advance!
