I wonder is this a development of the issue with the Big 6 refusing to deal with Amazon re library loans?

They are all business. Of course there is no good guy in this picture. They are all interested in maximizing profit. That is the name of the game.

All of this seems to be making a mountain out of a rumor. With the pending DOJ lawsuit/settlement, I wouldn't be renewing any contracts right now, whether I was Amazon or the publishers. The parties may just be putting the negotiations on hold until they see what shakes out. | |

For me, it's easy to go elsewhere...I mean, with Apprentice Alf and Calibre, does it matter where you get your stuff?

I'd be willing to bet that not a single title goes away for a single day when all is said and done. As a publisher, I know that the lion's share of books being sold are being sold through Amazon - and while the Big publishers might have the money to try and fight this for a while, the simple fact is it's easier to buy books there - and people love easy. It's going to work out just fine.

I just don't see how Amazon is easier than any other book store. I buy from Books On Board as well as B&N (more B&N than any other retailer), Amazon just has better freebies for me, which is the only reason I go there.

Buying a book to my Kindle is much easier than using a computer and buy from Angry Robot or Baen. If I am going to connect my Kindle to the computer and buy through a browser that is as hard or harder than just downloading the book from a torrent.

Also - if 25% of ereaders are Kindles, then a large percentage of that 25% (lets say 24.999%), will only ever buy ebooks from Amazon - losing that is a significant deal. The situation just seems different from when this happened last time. |

I have no problem buying a book from the Sony store and having it download to my Sony 950; nor do I have any problem buying from the Nook store and having it automatically be available on my Nook Tablet. I only need to go the side loading route when I buy books from places like Baen and Smashwords, although I could (probably) buy the same books from Sony or B&N -- I just prefer to buy from Baen adn Smashwords and don't mind the side loading.
