I don't think wanting an SD card slot makes one a "specialty user". Without wanting to dive back into the debate over what is better, I think an SD card slot is a basic requirement of any device, that Apple has tried to convince people they don't really need. Much like Flash. I have seen lots of people claim on various forums that the lack of Flash in no way handicaps iDevices. But in the five months I have had my iPhone, I have encountered numerous websites that I cannot adequately experience, thanks to Apple's knowing what is best for me. That is the thing that drives me the craziest about Apple.

Compare how Apple handled the antenna issue to how Asus handled their transformer GPS issue. Asus did not extend the return period, offer free cases, or offer any other compensation to people who purchased their tablet. So, yeah, I think Apple did a good job with this issue, at least compared to anyone else. Quote:

First of all, it take two sides to settle a case. Do you really believe that the Class would have been willing to settle for what they finally settled for immediately? I don't believe that for a second. Apple offered everyone a free bumper or case within a month of the problem being discovered. People who had already bought a bumper received $30 (for the bumper) *and* the choice of a free case. The people who brought the class action suit are people who didn't accept the bumper or free case from Apple. They will receive either $15 or a free bumper - i.e., about what they could have received within a month from Apple. I'm almost 100% certain that the settlement took so long because they were holding out for much more. |

And I think it is a problem if, in response to a misleading or wrong post about an Apple issue, anyone who responds is labeled as an "Apple lover." Particularly so given the recent barrage of Apple critical posts by people who aren't particularly interested in a discussion of the topic, but are merely using the issue because they have some sort of beef with Apple or its users. (Who now comprise 51% of US households). And while I understand why someone who owns a particular product might be a fan of the product, what I don't understand is why people who *don't* own the product have decided that they hate the product. Why waste your time on something you don't own and will never be required to own? |

			Good question...

I'm currently an Apple user--iMac, iPhone, wife has a MacBook Air and I have a dead MacBook Pro (long story). But I've used, at various times, a Windows PC, Linux, an Android phone, and I currently have a Chromebook and a Kindle Fire, which is Android-based. I'm thinking of replacing my dead MBP with a Windows 8 tablet when they come out--I've played with an iPad extensively, but it doesn't do anything for me. Bottom line is I use what works best for me--and what I like--regardless of label. Technology isn't religion, and there's no One True Way regardless of what fanboys of any company--Microsoft, Apple, or Google--may think. |

It's impossible to walk by an Apple Store without thinking, "White power! And after that, brushed aluminum power!"

It's OK, if you just want to go online a bit. It's a CR-48, one of the pilot laptops that Google gave away prior to the public introduction. It's been mostly serviceable enough, but it has connectivity issues with both WiFi and the Verizon 3G service. Most of the time it works, but sometimes it just refuses to. Kind of a big deal for something that requires you to be online, but since I got it for free, I can't complain too much.

If you want to know what it's like to use, just install the Chrome browser on the laptop of your choice. That's pretty much it. |
