Tom, you need to mention wich version OS you are using. Mac's work differently depending which OS version.

open the console (applications -> utilities) click clear. Then try to launch calibre. You should see some useful debug info. Post it here.

On Win Vista mine gives an error on version 4.72. I have Calibre installed in my C directory. If I click retry I get the same error. I am afraid to hit ignore.

Hi Kovidgoyal,

Thank you very much for this great software. I have tried using it last night, but had difficult time converting Cyrillic file to LRF format.

I have tried various file types txt, rtf, word, html and only html file converted correctly (when I went to view option and chose LRF, I was able to see Cyrillic text properly). All other conversions just displayed weird characters. But when I transferred this file to 505 reader, it still could not interpret it.

I also tired putting in font formats, in conversion set up, but it also did not help. Does you conversion software supports Cyrillic fonts?

yes it does, but you have to find the right fonts to embed. Experiment a little with the font embedding.

Alternatively you can Russify your reader, you don't need to embed fonts then.
