I would like to see an SF series in which India dominates or is a leading nation as humanity moves out into space. It would be a refreshing variation on the old trope where mostly or even ONLY people of European descent make it into the future. Yes, I know things are changing but more work needs to be done in overthrowing the John Campbell stereotype where the only Nordic ideal inherits the future.

There was a really good Sci-fi/Fantasy(Djins and Ai) short story collection that are loosely related. Probably the best book I've read recently. Cyberabad Days Ian Douglas FYI: The A in Cyberabad is not a typo. |

There is a great fantasy style retelling of the Ramayana by the Indian writer Ashok K. Banker. The first volume is called "Prince of Ayodhya". The whole series comes to 6 or 7 volumes but the first volume is absolutely great. Gods and demons, magic, love, evil plots, betrayal, loyalty, everything you need in a great fantasy saga. I read it in paper format several years ago but it is now available in eBook format too. See link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/RAMAYANA-SER...2182039&sr=8-2 Incidentally, there is also a retelling of the Welsh saga, the Mabinogion, by Evangeline Walton in 4 volumes. This too reads like a great fantasy saga. Last edited by Polyglot27; 03-19-2012 at 02:36 PM. |

Thanks everyone for lots of interesting suggestions, adding to my list. I just started reading River of Gods by McDonald and so far it's pretty good. |

Might I suggest Roger Zelazny's Lord Of Light and Mercedes Lackey's Serpent's Shadow

Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed sounds like the sort of thing you are after.
