Is Apple betting the farm on the new iPad (iPad3 or iPadHD or ?)?

IPad3 owners -- how has your wifi been treating you? Gizmodo and Engadget have both run stories suggesting a major consensus the reception's half as strong as that of the iPad2's.

Of course, journalists sell controversy the way evangelists do hellfire, which is why I'm interested in casual owners' experience here.

I've had no issues, but I haven't done any sort of measurement.

Fine. I have my router & modem in a closet in my bedroom. My reception is just fine.

I like the shadowing too.

Update 2: Another reader told us a quite enlightening story that happened to him at an Apple Store's Genius bar:

I spent 90 min in the store. We compared the speed on the 3 and my 2. Wasn't a dramatic difference (because we were in the back of the store, closer to the router mothership!) But still there was a difference.

They did an exchange—but we all decided to test the new iPad 3.

We tested it, and still there was a difference - about 2/3 the strength. It wasn't that big.

Then the clerk suggested we try another machine to compare two 3's—and my 2.

When we went to the front of the store—at the entryway to the mall—I was vindicated! Because the signal was weaker—the the 2 was flying—getting 12 or 15—while the 3 was lagging at 3 or 4.

So the manager was called over. It was decided to swap it for yet another 3.

Tested it again and it was still the same problem.

But now everyone was aware that there is a problem with the 3.

Bottom line: I returned it, got my money back - and am back to the 2. It's not as sharp, but it's fast! So, I'll wait a month or so, and see if they manage to improve the wifi issue.

Would this technically be a problem of range rather than reception?

I haven't had a iPad 2, but I could easily use mine more than 40 feet away and outside and there wasn't a lag. My router is super old too.

For my old iPad 1: MUCH better than my Kindle Fire!

With the iPad, I can browse the web when in my bed in the upstairs bedroom (router is downstairs). With the kFire, I have to sit down on the top of the stairwell to get reception, which is not as convenient.

His second part says iPad. So he may be taking about the NEW iPad.

Regardless. How is your belittling any more relevant to the topic. Give the guy a break. He also may not have noticed the "3" shadowed in the question. Sometimes we read over quickly & jump at posting. Nobody deserves snarkiness because of that. I give him the benefit of the doubt. You could have asked a clarifying question. "Is it the iPad 1 or iPad 3 your referring too?"

I am not belittling anybody - the question is about the iPad3, so I am in my right to ask how the answer is relevant. And please don't be so condescending, I had no malice on my post, I just wanted to set the record straight.

You could have asked a clarifying question, it would have been more appropriate. You have a right to ask why he like jam on his toast instead of butter also. My condescension was just as appropriate. I had no malice in my post.
