That's very good sharp but have you made dollars on the prime membership or lost dollars. Profit = (number of packages * $5) - prime membership. I don't order non-digital items from amazon what so ever. I love amazon's daily free apps and their free books, I want to encourage them to make as much free as possible.

Keep in mind, it's not just free shipping, it's free 2-day shipping. 2-day shipping is not cheap. And if you're a Prime member, you can get overnight shipping for $4 per item. The normal price for overnight shipping is astronomical. If you like getting stuff fast, Prime is a very good value.

It is. And I am sure that there are people who pay for it and then do not use that program to its fullest. I would also think that Amazon has deals in place so that they are not paying the amount that we are cited when we choose 2 day shipping. And then you have the folks who are using it for the videos and e-books. I have a sneaking suspicion that the program is there because it makes Amazon a good amount of money.
For the people who do take full advantage of the program, they are probably intentionally doing more shopping at Amazon then other folks. So they are bringing in more money in sales. Since there is a balance of items that are sold below cost, at cost, and for a profit, I would assume that someone that uses Prime to its full advantage is buying a good number of products that are not on the margin and that makes Amazon a good amount of money. |

I order so much crap from Amazon that Prime pretty much pays for itself in no time. You also get some movies and TV shows free, but not many that interest me.

I get mod notices if I use much less offensive words than the one used to describe women and female dogs.

Those really great companies like Studebaker, DeSoto, and General Motors never go under. They rule forever. So it will be with Amazon. Some day, Amazon will be a household word like DeSoto.
Amazon is less likely to be defeated than it is to just collapse. But, I'm old and I doubt it will happen in my lifetime. |

The Christmas before last, I decided I wanted to buy my gf a 42" plasma TV. There was a pretty good deal through Walmart, so near the beginning of December, I ordered one with the "ship-to-store" option. About two weeks before Xmas, I got the notice that it was at the store, and the following week (Saturday, one week before Xmas), I went to WM to pick it up. They had a special ship-to-store area, so I went there and everything seemed to be going well...until they couldn't find my TV! They didn't tell me exactly what happened, but reading between the lines, it seems like someone probably stole it from the storage room. And, to make matters worse, to get a refund, I had to go wait in the long customer service line.
But on the way to the CS line, I pulled up the Amazon app on my phone and ordered a Prime-eligible 42" flatscreen TV from Amazon. This was Saturday; it was delivered to my house on Tuesday for no extra charge. Despite it being a somewhat bulky item, and despite it being the Tuesday before Xmas. |
