Does Target or Best Buy sell Kindle Touch 3G without offers?

An easy one , I think ...

My mother in law was looking for a Kindle Touch 3G but the one without offer. My advice was getting it from store, instead of Amazon. But she said was not able to find one.

Is that model Amazon's store or online exclusive? ...

Jo,

It really doesn't matter whether you buy the version with or without offers. If you buy the version with offers, you can just go to "Manage My Kindle" and remove the offers. Amazon will charge you the difference in the price of the two models for the removal.

so .... can she buy the one with offer, change for good via Amazon site, and won't get the ads? She doesn't want the ads.

Is she/are you aware of how unobtrusive and easily ignored the ads are? My wife got me the ad supported Kindle NT and to be honest, the ads are only at the "Home Page" and the "Screensaver" when you shut down the Kindle. Easy to overlook and ignore. Also if you don't connect to WiFi the ads don't renew, so you just see a big READ for the "Screensaver".

That might be true if you never, ever, ever connect via wifi. Which to me sort of defeats the purpose of having a unit with Wifi, but clearly it's a personal choice. I too have the Kindle non-touch & find that even with Wifi off, I still get the ads.

As soon as you connect via Wifi once, you'll get the ads whether you turn it on again or not. I've seen it happen right in front of my eyes when I was out of country in a place that didn't have Wifi & I didn't even have it on searching for a connection. The screensaver ad just changed while I looked at it. At first I thought I was seeing things but after it happened a few more times, I realized that I wasn't. lol

As to the 3G without offers, yes I've seen them at Target, Walmart & Best Buy. It seems to be hit & miss though as to stock. I don't always see them. I've found more of the touch 3G no offers at Walmarts though. In a worst case scenario & to save yourself time, just do what Harry suggested.

Personally I like the ads. More interesting to look at than the "dead authors".

If I could buy a unit without WiFi and it was cheaper, I'd do that. WiFi availability is a completely immaterial to me. Most of my dead tree books don't have access to the web either.

A follow up question.

Is there a limit in turning the ads off? Let's say, a few weeks or days after initial purchase? Or that can be done anytime ? ...

I got a WiFi SO when they first came out and still have the ability to turn them off if I wanted to (I don't).
