i noticed a payment had been taken from my bank account from amazon, for a book that i hadnt bought, i got a refund but they told me perhaps i wasnt aware that i had ordered the book, could anyone tell me, how is it possible to accidently order a book on the kindle and not be aware of it

Given that ordering is a "one click" process, I suppose it's possible, although you must presumably also have ignored the e-mail that Amazon sent you confirming the purchase.

Does it show up in the "My Kindle Orders" page on "My Account" at Amazon?

And the 'Ordered this by mistake? Click here to cancel order' (or words to that effect) when you order something on your Kindle.

When a touchscreen is left active and a device is handled blindly, say, by a toddler, anything can happen. Kind of like butt dialing. Only I would tend to think this more unlikely than butt dialing.
