However, iTunes is a convenient way to get lots of stuff and you don't need a Mac or PC to get it.

I would be happy to send you one to "test." Do your dirtiest to screw it up and we'll see if we can fix it.

Well, you don't need need iTunes to sync or update iPad2 , no more. I guess is the same for 1st gen iPad. Excluding wife's iPod, I don't use iTunes anymore .... Very early to say and this thread is mere speculation. But if all iPad apps are backward compatible on that hypothetical 7" iPad tablet, including Kindle for iOs, and if price is 300 bucks or less, I may think about it. No. I use ipad1 everyday and intend to until it gives the ghost. But after that it will be Android tablet. Not sure of the size, 7 or 10". Fire is not available here.

BTW, I love Windows Phone and the Metro user interface as well. I might retire my Kobo Vox for a Windows 8 tablet running Kobo's software, depending on pricing and features. Since Windows 8 code can theoretically run on Windows 8 PCs, Windows 8 tablets, and Windows Phone 8 smartphones, can you imagine a transformer-like device that does all three?! 0_o Detach your PC monitor and it becomes a tablet; detach your phone from the monitor for when all you need is a smartphone. It wouldn't be as useful for a family, but might be perfect for a single person or a college student.

That's a very interesting point, I forgot that. Kindle Fire is not an International device, while iPads are. There are lot of 10 inches Android tablets on the market (well known companies I mean) but not many on 7 inches.

I switched to Apple products in 2004 so I like the software and use it a lot. I love iPhoto and iTunes, they are both nice interfaces. But the other folks where I work use a variety of other things. They get movies and music anywhere. My biggest usage is apps for handicapped kids. Apple has lots. They also donated the iPad and pay for someone to teach the kids how to use it based on each kid's ability. Can't do better than that. They get my vote. |

I like Android, got my first phone for xmas and I enjoy the apps. Nevertheless, I like Apple products, very decent and pleasure to work with. My ipad1 was worth every € I paid for it although I didn't know that at the time of purchase. Talk about being blinded by a shiny gadget

I can't imagine what I could do to it that this group of kids hasn't done, seriously. I think the only thing that could screw it up would be a messed up jailbreak. The kids have already tried everything.

For FIRE it is sufficient to install GO launcher, at least for some ...

Yes, I would most likely. While I like my Kindle Fire, I have A LOT of software on the iPad/iPod (> 50 GB, > 500 apps) and see the value of not having to buy everything twice. Ironically, I like the kindle app on the iPad better than the kindle's native reading programs. Among others, it does two-column text. Don't know why they can't have that on the KFire. One free app of the day is nice, but on the iTunes store, there's every day dozens of free apps, some of them very good. Best regards, Andy |

And I like my Kindle Fire but the reading app. can be better! The Kindle for iOs looks way more polished and professional. Granted, Kindle for iOs is a more mature product, but I think the Android version has been out there for a while now.
