Just for your info, Bookeen has released the source code for the Odyssey.
You can download it in the support/download/source code gpl section of the website.

And you might not be able to use the sources to actually modify the Odyssey though until a "custom update" is somehow possible.

They must have released the sources b/c so many asked about it.

They had to publish the source code of those software parts running on the Odyssey covered by GPL-like licenses: linux, busybox, u-boot, etc.
