Yes, "cattle egret" = "white heron". The point of the poem was to convey the idea of "whiteness" without using the word "white". Not well-executed, apparently. Back to the drawing board.

aw, i thought it was quite elegant. and i hadn't paid attention before, but "white" (in the form of birds) immediately came into my mind when i read it.

Bollocks to that! Expecting all people to understand and track down all allusions no matter how vague can sometimes be a stretch, but expecting people to look-up "cattle egret" if they don't know what it is is fair play in my book. Stop being hard on yourself, or I'll come down there and give you a right talking to!

Oh, and I couldn't draw either, about two weeks ago. I whined to ZP that "I wish I could draw" and she told me the secret: draw.
