				Battery Life of 2hrs

Since the firmware update I get about 2 hours of active use. If I use standby it drains itself in about seven hours. Oddly enough I got about seven hours of active use before the update. Is this one of the issues that takes a device reset? |

This really sucks. I don't want to have to leave the device plugged in 24 hours a day just so I can use it for a few minutes and put it back to charge. |

yes, I would try several things before giving up... do a factory reset using the vox's menu reset, but you likely may have to do a formatting and then another firmware update . Check earlier threads (search) for the howto... Try unmounting and the remounting the battery as well... Last edited by Cdesja5; 01-13-2012 at 05:44 AM. |

Standby = sleep (ie: the screen is off but the unit is not powered down).

I turn mine off in between uses and it usually lasts me a week! I use it only an hour or two per day, now.

I'm starting to wonder if it was something running in the background that was maxing out the CPU. Wi-Fi status didn't seem to make a huge difference whether it was on or off, but suddenly the uptime on a charge is back to normal. Aldiko has started crashing on each resume though so it's possible that's related. Since there's an update for that I'm grabbing it now. Fingers crossed that my uptime stays at normal levels |

I've noticed an increase in the battery life since the last update. I use a combination of Battery Booster and the Mobo Task Killer to maintain the Vox' health and battery life. I unplugged my Kobo from the charger this morning at 7am. At 10:20pm I've got about 80% battery power left. I've used it for about 45 minutes using a notepad app, read for about 45 minutes and played games for 30 minutes. Both of these apps are available in the Vox' app store. The battery use screen should/might tell you if something in particular is eating much of your power. All Apps -> Settings -> About Kobo eReader -> Battery use As far as I can tell, the information is about the period since the last charge. I took my Vox off of the charger to discover the exact sequence of clicks and notice that the screen only covers 1 minute. 60% Display, 40% Wi-Fi right now Various parts of that screen are clickable for (slightly) more specific information. Bitterbug: I'd be interested in what you discover (if anything) from that screen. |

It is definitely worth setting WiFi to shut down when in sleep mode.

Based largely on early contributions to this forum, I returned my first Vox for another one, telling the staff at Indigo that my battery never lasted longer than 4 hours while just reading (I don't browse or do anything on my Vox but read, and I keep the device in Airplane and Silent mode. Some people claimed to have battery lives of 7+ hours even after intense internet and multimedia use...) I can report that my experience is identical on the second Vox -- battery never lasts longer than 4 hours using it solely as an e-reader, and it's now getting to the point where I can't take the device to work without charging it between commutes (if I read during the morning commute and leave it in standby through the day, it will be dead for the afternoon commute. I either have to charge it at work or power it off completely). The display appears to eat 90+% of my battery. Idle services that cannot be permanently turned off (only force-quit every time you turn the Vox on, e.g., that damn undelete-able Globe & Mail thing, Kobo and System updates) seem to be the secondary culprits. I like the device functionality, but I'm really not impressed with the battery at all. Friends and family have asked, and I definitely would not recommend a Vox over an Android tab or iPad -- I guess you really do get what you pay for. If I could return it now I would, but I'm beyond the return date. I really don't think Kobo should have launched with such a clearly inadequate battery pack... (are you out there Kobo tech support?) I never just turn the screen off unless I expect to use it again within an hour or two. Leaving it in sleep mode for 8 hours will drain the battery substantially.
