How long till the 11" screen? Hm...

I have been waiting forever for an 8.5"x11" e-ink screen to read PDFs and I can't believe one's not out yet!

I got so excited about the Skiff Reader.. and then it flopped. I don't want to have to deal with zooming, or panning, or reflowing, I just want to see the whole PDF page at once! And I can't get a tablet because the whole reason I want an ereader is because LCD screens give me eyestrain and dull headaches. Since I can't read PDFs on my computer, I have to print them all out and I'm sick of killing trees and paying for ink!Anyone else feel the same way and really want an 8.5"x11" e-reader to be released? I can't be the only one! How long do YOU guys think till one finally hits the market? |

Which do you want - an 11" screen, or an 8.5"x11" screen, which is 14"?

I don't think you'll see either in the foreseeable future - it's too big to easily carry around. |

![]() Well... does it have to be about carrying it around? I can't help but feel like it'd be extremely popular with academics who have to read tons and tons of academic articles via PDFs and just wanted to avoid all the eyestrain. Maybe I'm just a weirdo and the only one who wants such a thing.

No, the size of a screen is its diagonal size.

It's not normal to be physically unable to read a computer screen. Perhaps you need glasses? I'd suggest visiting an optician and having your eyes tested. Sounds as if there might be a problem. Last edited by HarryT; 01-12-2012 at 04:37 AM. |

My DXG isn't that much smaller than my A4 portfolio, when you take the Oberon cover into account. Lose the keyboard and minimize the bezel, and you're almost there. |

That is because there are no options -- from what I read most would prefer e-ink. But obviously the powers that be have decided that this market niche is too small, so you can only take a chance on the outsiders (Pocketbook, Hanvon, Boox) or wait for Mirasol or color e-ink.

Not me but I don't need .pdf files often. I would be inclined to get a laptop computer. An e-ink reader of that size would have to be quite rigid or flexing would destroy the screen in nothing flat.

Her eyes, lol. Unless the screen name is a red herring.

I suspect we'll never see much choice in larger E-ink e-readers. Once you get into that price range the do-it-all tablets/notebook PC's are more marketable going forward. There is room for a better display (Mirasol or ?) but dedicated e-readers are doomed, IMO. |

Since PDFs typically have 0.5" margins, you only need 10" by 7.5", which is 12" diagonal.

The largest E Ink device in production is the Plastic Logic 100, with a 10.7" screen, see Mobile-Review (Russian). There was one in the US this week, see Visting with E-ink (Sony’s E-ink Plans, Hands On with the Plastic Logic 100, and more). |
